I am trying to remove the floor wiring panels on my 68 charger. How are the secured to the floor? I do not see any welds but I can't figure out how they are attached.
Thanks.

If you look closer your see spot welds in the middle of the tabs

drill the spot welds out. You can use a spot weld cutter or a bit. A regular bit will probably end up going through the floor. Are you trying to save them for reinstallation ? if not, just take a small die grinder and slowly/carefully grind through the weld Again. too far and you will go through the floor. Oh and you did unfold them to expose the tabs that are welded to the floor right.

yes, I opened them up to see the tabs welded to the floor. I want to save them but I am changing out the floor pan. I will order a spot weld remover from Eastwood and also get me a book on general body work.

I think you can buy new ones now and weld them to your new floors..

Get the spot weld cutter. Center punch the spot weld and take it slow. Since you are replacing the floor, it shouldn't matter if you go all then way through. I just hate doing that. I just am careful all the time and it is good practice gaining the "touch" If you slip a putty knife under the edge, you can actually see/hear it pop as it seperates No reason to buy new ones if yours are good.

No need to wait on spot weld cutters thru mail order. If you see a Snap On truck, just run it down and get a set off them. That's what I did, and they weren't any more expensive if you count the shipping from Eastwood.

Get a blair spotweld cutter (the cheapest one works the best, i swear). Center punch and drill you can feel it if you done it awhile but i noticed if you look at it outside of the bit as soon as you see rust colored dust your through. Then if it doesnt come off freely, you missed the center of the weld, no worries a screwdriver will pry it off. Just be careful not to rip the metal when doing so!

Good luck!

Steve
