Im completely re-dying my new Mustang interior from tan to black with the exception of the seats, so mainly all plastic pieces. Who sells the best dye in a spray bomb? Is it better to spray the pieces in a spray bomb or with a gun? Any suggestions would be awesome! Im guessing most of the pieces will be around a matte black.

Thanks guys

I used SEM on my Duster including the back seat. That was almost 6 years ago and it still looks great. Just make sure to buy and use the Plastic Prep for plastic or the Vinyl Prep for Vinyl to their instructions and do it within their temp range and you cant loose. Looks great!!

^The door panels and seat in this picture were dyed using the SEM dye and STILL look like this!

SEM is a great product but it is a paint and NOT a dye. It's a flexible coating like it says right on the can. I've used it, and it works well but it is a paint and it can wear and scratch like any other paint. IMO using that on the inside of your new mustang would be the biggest mistake you could ever make on that car. If you want a black interior, you would be MUCH MUCH MUCH better off buying the black colored interior parts. There are no dyes that "soak" into the plastic or vinyl like you(and everyone else it seems) are thinking.

Just like painting a cars exterior, it's all in the preperation. Anyone can spray it black, it's what happens before that, that's most important. If it were THAT easy, everyone would be doin it. You can actually "loosen up" the plastic somewhat by using a fairly aggressive solvent and the interior paint will last longer, be stronger, and look as good as it's going to. Good luck with your project.

that's fine if its like anything else and if it scratches, it gets driven but is taken care of very very well, i dont trash my cars. personally, it'd be cheaper to dye the interior parts rather than buy them and i've looked, its harder to find them in decent shape to begin with

Wait a few more years and those cars will start showing up in the wreckers and then your black parts will be as cheap as they get. You can SEM it and the stuff works, but be sure to get the adhesion promoter as well. The stuff doesn't stick that well without it.

First off anything will flake off or sit on top paint ot dye,if not preped properly before.
Paint does not melt into primer it bonds with it same gopes for Dye.
Once the vinyl is cleaned and sprayed with a aheasion promoter{like bull dog} the dye will realy bond.
{ie} the adheasion promoter will bond to the properly prep vinyl and the dye will now bond.
This can also be done with the hard Plasitcs as well but the bond will not be as strong.Since the Dupont dyes are realy made for Vinyl.
SEM is ok for small jobs but if doing a whole roof ect get Dupont from the local dupont paint jobber. It can also me mixed to the right color/shade

If you put any spray dye on that, you'd better make darn sure that it is a water based dye and not a solvent based! Otherwise you are opening one heck of a big can of worms. Trust me, I work in the indusrty and know what I'm talking about. For the life of me I can't understand why people are so obtuse to do these types of things to a new car, when they could have bought one with the color interior they want to begin with!
