I've a 68, 383 that I'm trying to just run power steering, alternator and water pump. Years ago I supposedly bought a big block set up for this, but the alternator and power steering pump both set back about 1/2 inch too far. I have seen pictures where the p/s pump bracket bolts up without any spacers from the block, but mine has a 1/4 inch spacer already and it's still too far back. The crank pulley is 3 and 1/4 deep and outside pulley is
7 and 5/16 diameter, small pulley in back is 6 and 1/2 diameter. Any ideas and any pictures of your setup is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

These guys have some pics, measurements and will help you over the phone. I tried to run a "mixed" pulley setup with '70 style and '78 style. ('78 core engine in a '70 car). No go. I "think" the style most used/reproduced is the late 60's/early 70's style. I wound up converting my engine to this style completely. Has worked great.

Post some pics of what you are trying to use. Sounds like you may be mixed between a/c and non a/c big differences or cast crank v/s steel crank balancer again big differences.

If the water pump and power steering pumps can both be moved forward will they line up with the crank pulley? Can you fab brackets to achieve that? Or will a shallower crank pulley (with the 2 grooves) take care of you? (are the WP/PS pulleys lined up with each other right now)

Mopar switch pulleys several times in the 1960/70s, all three need to be the same generation and application scope IE 1964 to 1968 BB B body with power steering or 1969 to 197? BB B and E body with power steering work Good luck up Let us know what you end up doing to make them work.

No, they are not in line with each other. The P/S pulley is about 1/2 farther forward. It almost seems like the crank pulley is too far forward (toward the radiator) because both the alt and p/s pump pulleys alignments are further back. I with I could post some pics, but my regular computer gave up the ghost. NUTS!

if you located a shallower crank pulley (of the right offset) would you be able to bring the ps/wp pulleys in line with it?

One of the sponsors of Moparts, 440 Source, has a double pulley for the crank that is supposed to be a direct copy of the original one used on big block engines. I've measured the one I have and the measurements are exactly what theirs is. With it installed, my other two pulleys are still about 1/2 inch still too far back and they already have some spacers not used by others that I've seen.

This is what I used on mine. I had a pile of pulleys and scrounged thru them years ago to make this set. Notice the flat area on the w/p pulley...it may be easier to spot one when looking in the future... twocents

I did this dance when I restored the 67 coronet in the pic.. It had the original 440 in it and the lower 2 belt crank pulley had rusted in half..

Can't tell you what year it changed but it was appx 1/4" smaller ( engine to radiator dimension) than any other pulleys I acquired.. Wasn't sure what to do until Randy 1wildRT had the one I needed and sent it to me..

A lot of the pulleys have a number stamped on them. Getting those may help identify what you have. If you have the right pulleys you wont need to be trying to space them.

Thanks for those terrific pictures. After looking at them, I might have the wrong pulley on the p/s pump. Mine is solid, doesn't have the spokes. Something else just dawned on me-I'm running 452 heads that have the "peanut plugs" like on some motor homes and police cars. Don't know if that makes any difference or not???

I'm not sure what everything I used actually came from as far as year and such. work Nothing else on mine is "correct" so it didn't really matter it just needed to work. boogie The motor in the pic also has 452's...I don't think they make any difference... shruggy
