The Summit 6400 is the 214/224 @ .050, .444/.466 hydraulic.

Has anyone used it in a 383? Was it a good low-mid street cam, and what did you have for manifold vacuum at idle? Thanks.

I've used a few of the 488 cams. They work very well in a BB. If you are going to swap grab the bigger cam. It works very well from off idle to about 5600. I like it better than the mopar 484. With the 488 I had a bunch of vacuum. Don't recall the actual reading.

x2! the summit 6401 is a very good street cam.

Sorry to butt in, how's the idle on a 440?
I'm looking for a stockish idle and a quiet valvetrain smile

Ive used all 4 2 BBs and 2 Sb cams. They all ran good and were decent for the $$$$.I ran the 488 in a 440 for a few years then put it in a 383.Idle was just a touch lumpy but not radical. They all ran good vacuum. The 383 was in for at least 20 years total.Rocky

very mild idle. Unlike the Mopar 484 it won't shake like it's missing on a cylinder. Plus it has a much broader powerband. I ran 12.90's in a 3850lb 67 coronet with a very tame 440.

the 6401 cam in my stock 440 idles very smooth, good vacuum, drives great with a taller gear, and makes very good torque.

the 6400 cam in a 383 should run like a stock magnum cam. it may have a little more torque with the tighter LSA. it wouldn't be a bad cam for a stockish 383.

Is this for the car in your sig, a 4 speed ? If so get the 6401 , I ran that in my 69 bee , 130k mile 383-2bbl long block with a DP4B , 3.23 gear , 4speed , power brakes , did 97mph in 1/4 at 3900 lbs , not earth shattering but the car was fun to drive.

Okay. Did you have to change the valve springs, or did it work with original springs? Thanks.

i don't use stock (red) hi-po springs. my measurements showed that there would be coil bind with the 6401 cam. there's a green stock spring that will take even less lift than the hi-po.

I didn't change the springs, it would have had to stock NON HP springs if they were still the factory original. The engine was installed in the car by someone else, it was not the original engine.

But that was over 15yrs ago , would I do that today ... not a chance.

I used the 6400 in a higher compression, stockish type build. Idle was smooth, but did have a slight lope. Vacuum was high enough to run power brakes and hvac, and the torque production was amazing. However, because of my compression, it was borderline on detonation. I should have used the 6401 instead.
