I would suggest: (1) setting initial with vac gauge method (2) shortening slots for the std total (initial+slots) for your eng type (ie 35 for SB) then (3) mix/match spring combo so you are just under the pinging point at WOT up thru the gears on your hottest/driest day no matter what RPM it maxes out at then (4) plug in/adj can. To ans your Q here is a chart

first I'd see what RPM your current spring combo maxes out at then take (& post) a pic of your (current) springs. My bad I forgot to mention that the Crane kit is no longer available. Options to slow the curve: (A) weld the inside of the slots to preload the springs slightly (B) trim the tips of the weights (evenly) (C) I got some heavier springs at ACE hardware (D) cutoff a coil or two. EDIT if you find a suitable spring & it is a bit longer than the ones Ma uses then welding up the inside of the slots works for that also. Just keep tabs on what RPM the springs are maxing out at & if it is still pinging at WOT & keep slowing it (spring rate) & no matter what spring combo/which one you change it still advances in a linear rate (other than the OE elongated slot spring)
