I have two torsion bars. On the end one is numbered 779, the other is numbered 779L (may be 799 .. but that's not important).

Is this a pair or two of the same ?? I would expect them to either have different numbers OR be lettered "L" and "R".

Don't recall. Bought them off him a year or two ago.

One has a bend in it. I didn't think it was a big deal as I've seen a lot with bends. But now that I think about it I wonder if its because it was installed on the wrong side. Could be that it was replaced some time during the car's lifetime and whoever installed it didn't know or worry about part numbers.

The guy that sold them to me may have just pulled them out without looking at the part numbers. However, I don't think he should have sold the one with the bend in it - its not something that can be fixed.

Maybe I'll get lucky at some swap meet and find someone with only the one I need !

Yep, I bought a car a few years ago and one of the bars was bent. When I took it out and looked at it I found that it was wrong side. Someone had installed two of the same bars in the car.

It happens. Lots of people out there who don't pay attention to details. Same thing with the left handed lug nuts and other unique Mopar parts.
