Mine had minor dents and needed recore and I think was $300ish? I would need to look to be sure. Bob at Glen ray is definitely the man.

The cores that most rad shops use may have a different tube count of fin size compared to the Glen-Ray rads. I'm sure Glen-Ray takes more time prepping the side braces and tanks, etc... for a better finished product and uses the correct black paint process. I know in Ontario the average cost has gone up a lot from a few years ago because of the price of copper. I pay around $400 CDN yet the core is not 100% correct looking.

Will Ray sell just the core and I could have it done here? That would save the shipping and the chance my tanks could get lost. I could maybe give it to him at the Nats and pick it up at Carlisle. I'll give him a call next week and see if he going this year. Its for my 70 and as you can see,I don't need it any time soon.
ANY decent radiator shop can perform this type of work and give excellent results. I have seen the Glen Ray radiators and the cores look no different from the ones that are availale locally. There aren't all kinds of core suppliers out there, so I am sure that the one that Glen Ray is providing is the same one your local guy can get. My local shop has done countless radiators for me(for GM/Ford and Chrysler) and all the cores were identical or very close to the originals. Not crapping on Glen Ray, just giving another opinion.
Here is a tip as well. Have the local shop leave the radiator unpainted and you can do it yourself. I use Imron on the tanks and side mounting brackets and paint the core with a few light coats of conventional enamel. The Imron will hold up to anything whereas most paints will stain if exposed to very hot engine coolant...

No to toot my own horn.... no it is not a "black art" to recore a radiator, but it must be to restore a radiator. I know I am higher than a lot of shops. But the amount of work that goes into some of the top tanks would suprise some people. Not that I am the only one that does a good job because some shops do great work too. But I have looked at some radiators that had been recored/restored by other shops because I was too expensive and the majority of them looked pretty poor. Like I said, some shops care about the quality of the finished product. Others see it as a old radiator of of some car that isn't worth much time other than slapping it together as fast as they can to make their labor rate pay off. We also bead blast, prime and refinish the radiator with the sheen as close to an original finish as you are going to get. I guess if your going to pay $3,000. to $5,000. to get your engine rebuilt or have $20,000. to $50,000. to get your car restored and want your radiator done for $200.00, so be it. I more worry about that it's going to cool whatever horsepower your going to throw it it and still look like an new radiator. Not bitchin', just telling you the way I see it. I guess it's called taking pride in your worksmanship. Got a question, give me a call. Bob Schirmer Glen-ray Radiators 1.800.537.3775 1.715.842.3352 1.715.551.3157 cell

Well said...
I would rather pay more and know it's going to be right than pay less and take chances. Some things are best not left to the lowest bidder. Kinda like pacemakers.

Not to derail this but the radiator in my 67 R/T says 936.. Whats the difference of this and a 956???
Start with the numbers. A 1967 2785936 is a 26.00 radiator, but has outlet locations for a 67 B-body and the application is 383/440.
A 2998956is a 1970/71 number 26.00 radiator and has outlet locations for a 1970/71 B&E-body with HD cooling needs (some 383's,440's,440+6's, and all 70 and some 71 Hemi's)
