No info on the FK pump (& the link would not open). What about having your welder weld an anticav plate to a parts house 8 blade pump. On a BB you cut the circular plate in two & weld the halves behind the vanes. On yours: SB or BB?. EDIT are you having cooling issues or are just need a new pump & are thinking an aftermarket (FK) one might cool better?

I just bought the 1701 (clock-wise rotation) and installed it on my 68 LA. The dimensions of the new pump versus my old 68-style pump are identical. I wanted to stay with the pre-1970 style water pump for ease of installation (radiator outlet/inlet, pulley alignment, etc). The machine-work on the Flow Kooler pump looks very good to me. The visible difference is in the front 'bulge' (rounded area on the front of the pump) and the impeller.

Since I haven't used it yet, I can't tell you how it works. I am using a 'big' thermostat that I got from Mancini (180 degree). I'm hoping that thermostat works, but I have read people having issues (on Jeeps) with the Flow Kooler units until they change their thermostat to a Robert Shaw thermostat.

The directions that come with the F.K. pump suggest changing your lower radiator hose to a stiffer, reinforced version if your current lower is spongy. I was going to use a Gates 'universal' lower hose or maybe cut my existing hose and use some pipe in between the pump and radiator outlet to address the additional suction capabilities of the F.K. pump.

That might work, but the F.K. pump puts the impeller closer to the front of the housing (closer to the front of the car). It also makes 'bulge' area on the front of the housing bigger. I paid $114 after shipping.

built in anticav plate/plenty of vanes . that (item) would give max flow wighout haveing to source a smaller pulley with the right offset (a pain). Are you haveing a cooling issue (if so more details) or just needing a replacement pump & wanted a good one?

I thought it would be a good idea to resurrect this old thread since there have been some new threads on how to keep your engine cool. Tis the season.

I have now used my Flow Kooler pump on two fairly long drives (35 minutes and 1 hour 15 minutes). I have also driven some short distances, too. So far, so good; but outside temps have only been in the 70's out here in CO. This car never over-heated in the past and the gauge is reading a lower temp now (maybe 5 degrees lower) than it did last year with the factory pump.

The real test will be 90 degree weather in stop-and-go traffic. I would be surprised if I encountered any issues.
