CAN ANYONE OUT THER GIVE ME A MEASUREMENT OF THERE TOP PLATE OPENING FOR THE SHIFTER HANDLE , GOING TO ATTEMPT TO CONVERT AND AUTOMATIC 1 , IF YOU CAN PROVIDE SOME PICS EVEN A COMPARISON OF TEH 2 NEXT TO EACHOTHER ITS GREATLY APPRECITED THANKS JOHN

Been there, done that. 6.75" from the back edge. 13" from the back edge to the front of the opening.

That’s pretty much it for the pictures. Takes a whole lot of grinding, and that is some HARD material. It’s not pot metal. Once I was done hacking, I took a thin piece of sheet metal and patched the rear of the hole. I JB Welded some sheet metal screws to act as studs for retaining the boot. Installed some reproduction wood grain. Trimmed out the front and read of the hole with pieces of door edge guard molding. Pretty convincing conversion, especially considering what decent 4-speed plates are going for these days ($400+).

You probably could splice in the ribbed texture, but it would require a lot more talent than I had to draw upon for my hack job.
