This looks like it was cut and pasted from the MP book... but its one of the newer books because of some of the PN... 5007 is newer stuff... but this also shows the 3.79 billet as a 8 bolt.. both of mine are 6 bolt... MAYBE they changed over to a 8 bolt in the last few years... let me go look at some of my MP books and see whats in them

Mike, it does show fordged 8 bolt in either my 1995 or 2001. Can't remember which.
Does it show them as 1053 or 4340?

In my 2001 book it shows a 3.79 forged 6 bolt 1053 material but not a 8 bolt.. they did/do offer a billet 3.79 with a 8 bolt flange( this data is from my 2001 book)

Hi
The P4529715 crankshaft is, surface hardened, forged 1053 steel, radiused fillets main and rod, eight-bolt flange, 318 mains, according to the 97 and 98 MP catalogs. I have one in my engine.(pic is from MP catalog).
sbdemon
That same PN in my 2001 book shows it to be a 3.79 6 bolt 1053 crank... so I gather that PN will/can be either a 6 or 8 bolt 3.79 1053 crank

I'm following along to hopefully learn something here. Is the 1053 a steel weak compared to 4340? Whats a used crank of either steel worth? I'd like to eventually build a 3.79" motor one day.
The billet cranks are made from 4340.. that might tell you

Now I need to decide if I want to run the 3.79" crank or buy a 4.00" for this build. Like all of mine, it'll be a pump 93 deal, R1 block, 4.09" bore, ported Indy 360-1s, most likely T&D rockers, Indy intake and a yet to be decided solid roller.
I faced the same dilemma a few years ago, decided to skip the 4.00, and go to the 4.125 to justify not using the 3.79. It was the right decision!!
