Hi!

I always loved the look of a tunnel ram and twin dominators on a HEMI.

I am about to build a 540+ inch HEMi with CNC ported Stage V heads and a big solid roller cam.

Would using an old school tunnel RAM hurt power? How bad?

What about the old Pro Stock Tunnel Rams??? Are they any different than the ones the pop up for sale all the time on ebay??? How do they differ and would an old Pro Stock tunnel ram work good?

What about the carbs? Now you can get 750 cfm dominators...

I've done some dyno testing with the old Weiand tunnel rams. They don't make much power when compared to a more modern design.

Is that with the regular Tunnel Rams or with the Magnesium Pro Stock tunnel rams? Cause I think they are different???

poor design with no suitable plenum. adding spacers to increase the plenum have shown +40 HP increase.

look at any sheet metal intake and see how much larger plenum

I used the Indy TR for efi, and I did use a 5/8 spacer under the bug catcher to help straiten air flow on mine...I also just switched to the big plenum carbureted version of a single four...

How much power do you want? The old Weiand will still make impressive power. I don't have a scanner to post my dyno sheet so I'll just give the highlites. 605 10.4-1, head flow 386@.700. Start of the pull at 3500rpm, 764.3ftlbs and 513.2hp. 4000rpm 600.8hp, 788.2ftlbs. 4818rpm,(peak torque)750.8hp, 818.4ftlbs. 5782rpm, (peak hp) 852.8hp, 774.6ftlbs.Dave

Well, I would certainly wouldnt like to leave too much power on the table....although it seems the tunnel ram still makes gobs of power seeing quickd's data.....

but I love the look of the tunnel ram...

Fred, that sheetmetal inake looks sweet. How much will one like that cost???

Dragula how does the indy TR compare to the single 4?

I can tell you the efi tunnel ram really needed the spacer to straighten the air flow as my set-up was batch fire and not sequential and therefore had no individual cylinder tuning....Some plugs were leaner than others. Maybe 572Charger will chime in...He ran that intake carbureted.

The big bore single four intake should be close. BGR runs these a lot, and its the best big cube Hemi single four intake out there. I have not run it yet. I still need pushrods, and an oil pan, and an accumulator before we dyno it. On pump gas, we should make +800hp with that intake. The runners are huge....Still port matching the carb to it and next the runners...Its almost the same height if not the same height as the tunnel ram.
I have no plans to run back to back testing unless someone wants to lend me an xfi ecu....or it sells first.

I'm not Fred, BUT, you're looking at $4,000+ for a new sheet metal tunnel ram. The intakes from this company are works of art.

We have run all types of intakes from RatRoster styles, X-rams, multiple single fours to cast TRs to sheet metal TRs and X-rams.There are a lot of varables to consider for a successfull combo. As far as the Indy or any TR manifold a little extra plenum is always helpful.Indy has a 1/2" spacer available. One of our sheet metal TRs,similar to a Hogan really came to life after fabracating a 2" spacer. We still have some Rat-R bases and old style TRs,new and used in the attic.
