How difficult is it to change the heater core in a 70 Cuda? Me and my neighbor took the Cuda out for a cruise this afternoon and he said that he felt something drip on his leg. We looked down and sure enough there was a drop of anti-freeze on his leg.

After we got home I looked under the dash and at the bottom of the heater core box there is a little bit of anti-freeze seeping through the seem at the bottom of the heater core box.

I'm just trying to find out if this is a straight forward job or if it is a pain in the neck to get to and replace.

I have done it once before in a VW GTi many years ago and it was a big job due to the dash had to come out.

Any input would be greatly appriecated.

-Thanks

A/C or no A/C? No A/C is pretty easy.

One easy item to check...Are the heater hose clamps on the core loose ????...Sometimes the clamps loosen over time and the antifreeze will shoot through the firewall seal and drip like a heater core giving it up...Always good to check that first...

no A/C, I just checked the fittings at the firewall and they are tight.

No AC is pretty easy. Also, the replacements are commonly available at many parts stores.

I couldn't believe how easy it came out.lol Disconnect the coolant lines, the vent cables, electrical, maybe some bolts where the fresh air to the cowl attaches and then some nuts in the engine bay and it will drop out.

I got my replacement through Advance Auto around 45 bucks IIRC

I just got through with my '72 Charger A/C car and it was a nightmare. I have replaced two orignal heater cores with new ones from Autozone which sell a nice core. The manufacturer I think is very reputable.

On the far right side of the front of the box just above the vent cable you will see a 5/16 hex head bolt. You must undo this bolt which actually hooks the heater box up on the cowl.....This is the biggest PITA of the whole job. A lot of people miss this and end up breaking the box is this area.
