Vehicle in question is my 72 Swinger. I am attempting to remove the cluster so I can access the back of the speedo, for removal of the speedo cable. I have removed all the screws attaching the face to the dash, the cluster wil move side to side but wont budge when I attempt to pull it.
I have even tried to lower the steering column,it wont drop either, although it seems all the attaching points are loosened.

I have however, gotten the Horn to work again, somehow.

Ive got the speedo cable disconnected at the tranny, but now im stuck at the cluster.

Any Suggestions?

Did you loosen the three bolts on the firewall that hold the column plate to the firewall?
There is also a bolt near the rear of the column, that bolts to the pedal assembly bracket.
Getting to the speedometer cable on an A-body would try the patience of Job.
And, it helps if you're a contortionist with small hands.
You've got to lay on your back with your head toward the firewall and reach up through the brace behind the instrument cluster to reach the speedometer cable.
There is a small hook on the side of the cable that holds it to the speedometer. You've got to squeeze that clip and pull the cable out.
Good luck. And, keep some bandages handy. There are a lot of sharp edges under the dash that will cut you. DAMHIK

You should be able to get that cable out without pulling the cluster, I know I can on my '69 Barracuda. It helps to remove the front seat too when working under that dash. That way you can lay on your back and look up under there.

Well after lots of trial and error,I was finally able to get the cluster moved enough that I could get to the speedo cable. The plastic housing that clips into the the speedo head is cracked and has come apart from the speedo cable covering. Figure I need a new speedo cable ,as the needle bounces all over the place.

I may as well put a new cable assembly in it as I already have it apart. No need to put it back together only to find out that lubing the cable didnt fix the erratic needle,Then the fun will start all over.
