The 1st Hotchkis Autocross of the season was a huge success with over 60 cars turning laps all weekend. Now, we are ready for even more fun at our 2nd event this weekend at the NMCA West race in Fontana. There are less than 15 spots left and preregistration closes tomorrow at midnight. Oh, and we just got word that UFC fighters Josh Barnett and Colleen Schneider will be there too!

My Dart won't be able to make it. I won't be able to get it ready in time, tuned, and safe. I need to get the brakes done and have a bunch of other small things I need to take care of with the suspension. I might register tonight and just take my tC again... I need to talk to some of the guys out there about what they'd recommend to replace my tC with that's daily and autocross friendly.

Both the Fiesta and Focus ST's are super fun!

I'm also curious how the new 2016 Miata is going to be. Ideally I'd like to sell my tC and get something of approximately the same value ($10kish). I've driven my coworkers S2000, and even though it was fun, I had trouble fitting in it. I'm 5'7" tall but weigh 245 lbs. I've got huge thighs, shoulders, and hip problems so sitting and getting out of it on an everyday basis definitely won't be fun. My coworker recommended an NA or NB Miata. Someone else recommended a 340Z. I've also thought about a 2005-2009 Mustang. The crazy person in me also thought about a 1st Gen Neon. Maybe an SRT4 Lol.

I'll most likely be going on Sunday if not both days.

there is LOTS of leg room in a neon/SRT4, less in the focus. learn to drive on a FWD and you'll learn momentum, car placement and how not understear. I learned on a regular Neon. Now daily/autoX SRT4 acr spec in GS. This year I will be codriving my brothers Focus ST. I'm a fatty and I fit in the SRT seats well. the recarro's in the higher trim foci are um "snug", like remove your wallet for longer than 20min trips.

I will tell you that the SRT is 10+yrs old, generally thrashed by the previous numbnutz "tunas" and can be a little "needy" in the maintenance department. Its damn fun and in ACR trim and I still think its as fast/faster than the focus. I can drive the SRT faster but im warming up to the focus.

Finding one that's fairly stock, non-salveaged, with "low" mileage will definitely be tough. ACR's are definitely more difficult to find. I'm still thinking of my options.

The Focus ST definitely sounds like a cool option. It gets about the same gas mileage with +70hp and +100ft-lbs of torque compared to the tC. I'm just having trouble picturing myself buying a Ford. Lol. I wish the Dart had something competitive in this area. Too bad their focusing too much on their SRT4 release in 2017.

The Neons are super fun, but I agree, finding one that hasn't been abused is going to be tough. They can be had for a good price.
We've been doing a lot of testing on the ST's over the last couple of months, and I can say Ford did some seriously good work on these cars.

Sweet! I won't be making this event, but have fun!

Just a heads up Dan, the NMCA link is wrong. I just got an immediate call back from the NMCA as apparently I just ordered a ticket for Georgia's autocross. Ticket sales closed last night at midnight for Fontana. So, I'm getting refunded. I'm going to try making it early on Sunday to get a spot (only about 4-5 open) but if not, I may just have to get a spectator ticket.

Thanks for the heads up. Seems NMRA/NMCA guys are pretty strict about the cut off dates!

Well, it's because they just sent out tickets this morning to the track. They couldn't send my ticket separately.

And... They just called me again. No one will be able to purchase a driver's ticket at the door. However, since they told me I could, they will allow me to buy a ticket and therefore I'll be autocrossing Sunday.
