Just curious if theres a kit to tighten up my steering on a 70 chall,I use to have a 79 trans am that steered sooo nice and i could really drive that thing!!! Currently i have the stock steering box with manual steering which is a lil crazy with the 512 stroker and had a couple near crashes. Also i want to upgrade the braking.

Of course the cheapest was would be best but fire away.

thanks

Replace the engine, and slow down and it shouldn't crash.

THEN fix the brakes, and it shouldn't crash.

THEN put in a performance steering box.

If it's almost crashed a couple times already, then don't drive it until it's fixed...

brakes, steering, engine, in that order.

Or buy a better driver...

Doc Diff can sell you what you need for brakes, front and rear.

Borganson Steering Box, or another one of those, can fix your steering problem.

A Richard Petty Driving School, or another one of those places, can help with controlling the car.

Thorough check of every suspension component for wear and breakage.

Firm Feel firm power steering box and Saginaw power steering pump.

Performance alignment with 1/2 neg camber, 3-5 deg pos caster, 1/16 toe in.

Next step up in $$ would be Borgenson power steering box conversion.

What size wheels and tires are you running in the front? Skinny, tall tires may make it difficult to control that big block.

Stickier tires front and rear. Borgeson box from Bergman autocraft to speed up the steering. brake pad upgrade. Front sway bar from Hellwig. More aggressive alignment (Steve's specs above will work).

That should suffice if you're not doing much more than street driving.

the azz end kicks out to the right also,it doesn't launch perfectly str8.As you can imagine with a 512, 2800 stahl and 4:10 gears all hell breaks loose when the go pedal meets the carpet

Are you looking to retain a manual steering setup? Everyone has made mention of power steering upgrades but what is the OP doesn't want that, or can fit it.
Flaming River used to offer a 16 to 1 chuck. It is cast iron so it looks nothing like the stock one.

would like to hard power steering/fast ratio and tighten up the steering,it's just a little crazy to recover when the car wants to dance.

I have one of DrDiff's dana 60's with a tru trac set up. Sounds like this would help your situation. I'm amazed how well it works and goes straight even when the tires are up in smoke. I wonder if something is worn out in your rear end?

...or you have a thrust alignment issue. I'd make sure the rear is square and parallel.

A step up to power steering would be a big help too. You just can't move a manual steering box wheel with those wide front tires fast enough when it starts getting away from you.

Man isn't that the truth!!

I went to power from manual on my Cuda last year and it is the single best improvement I have made.

manual box is 5 1/2 turns lock to lock, and power is 3 1/2 turns. That is a huge difference.

Other then that I would ensure that none of the suspension components are worn out and go from there.
