Is this someone's assumption because they had one in their trunk? Have you seen solid evidence (survivor, etc.) that further supports this?

I agree. It's been a two-three years now. But at Carlisle there was a guy in the swap meet selling a bunch of parts from a Demon he parted and there layed on the ground a rusty orange 698 hook. I sell a bunch of jacks and jack parts probably 100+ hooks and 100+ jack assemblies. So I looked at it,then looked at the list of numbers from Galen and saw it as a 71 Dodge wagon hook painted reddish orange. I left it there cause I did not believe him...
I don't think that hook was the "norm" but obviously used one some of them....
