Hi,
I am going to be dropping this cam into my 383 in about a month and was wondering if it will create enough vacuum for power disc brakes. I ran this cam in another motor and loved the way it performed, but was running manual brakes at the time. here is my set up:

70 road runner
383 10 to 1 CR
edelbrock RPM performer intake and 750 holley
edelbrock aluminum heads
TTI 1 7/8 headers

Here are the XE275HL cam specs:
Intake Duration at 050 inch Lift: 231
Exhaust Duration at 050 inch Lift: 237
Duration at 050 inch Lift: 231 int./237 exh.
Advertised Intake Duration: 275
Advertised Exhaust Duration: 287
Advertised Duration: 275 int./287 exh.
Intake Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.525 in.
Exhaust Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.525 in.
Valve Lift with Factory Rocker Arm Ratio: 0.525 int./0.525 exh. lift
Lobe Separation (degrees): 110

I know that overlap has a lot to do with engine vacuum, but I don't know what is "too much overlap" for power brakes. according to an online calculator this cam has 61 degrees of overlap... any help is appreciated. Thanks - Brian

I have that cam in my 470, except Dwayne had it ground with a wider lobe separation. I love the cam, but I'm not sure how it'd do with power brakes. Mine pulls low to mid teens for vacuum so I can't imagine a 383 would be able to hold a ton of vacuum.

I have the same cam in a 318 stroker 390 cubes and it is still pretty mild. Power brakes work fine. My engine does have a 4.00" stroke crank and the stock stroke 383 is a 3.38?? I don't know if that will make a big difference or not but I think it is a factor even though we have the same size engine. For the street I think this cam is pretty close to perfect and I still have a nice rumble at idle. I am also using 1.6 rockers so my lift is up around .565

Maybe some of the engine building guru's can shed some light on the effect of stroke on cam size???? TBF

My power brakes would work with 10" of vacuum.
I think you should at least 10" vacuum, but one of the vacuum resivor cans may be a good idea if you are worried about it.

If you have an ACTUAL 10:1 compression you should be ok.

I am using the KB 400 domed pistons with the 84cc edelbrock heads. According to the Keith Black site that would give me 10 to 1 CR...Never had it measured though.

I had that cam in my 4 - speed RR, didn't care for it not enough torque down low for a heavy 4-speed car. Just put in a 268/276 Lunati VooDoo cam and it has a much broader power band especially off idle.
As for the power brakes you will be fine, I have no complaint there.

BTW, my motor is the original 400 block with a 440 crank, eddy heads and 3.55 gears.
