Are there any limited slip front diff options for an 03 and up 1500 Ram? Or does a person have to adapt a front diff from another brand?

Not that I looked closely but iirc that front axle is based off the 8.25.
Still without locking hubs you're going to be spinning the front driveshaft all the time.
I wouldn't recommend it.

Not much of a downside there really, a lot of the 2nd gen rams spun the shaft all the time, tons and tons of jeeps out there that spin the shaft all the time. Those front axle disconnects have probably caused more stuck vehicles than anything else.

And add dakotas to the list and in my experience the 4x4 gets almost the same mpg as a 2wd so it can't be costing you much mpg. I hate locking hubs

From what I've read it's an 8" ring gear and has zero aftermarket, a limited slip of sorts would be nice (torsen diffs look interesting). This winter here wasn't bad for snow at all but certain years are bad and having all 4 wheels being able to dig would be a nice peice of mind. I'm not terribly interested in a straight axle swap because it's not a trail rig at all. I know the Raptors use an 8.8" diff in the front with a limited slip, one could probably be adapted with out a crazy amount of work (as compared to a SAS).
I know you can get Dana 60 rear center section for LX cars, would be cool if someone would make a Dana 44 diff section for the front ends of 03 up Ram 1500's

When it comes to winter driving I have had my jeep in a few configs, open, limited slip(tru-trac) and Locker. Its always been locked in the rear but the front has made been through each.

With a limited slip in a non disconnect type axle ice sucks pretty bad. The ice is slicker than the friction in the diff so it doesn't turn well and acts like a spool. You can't shake this problem my switching into 2wd either. I hated everything about the tru-trac diff anyways and when I got to try it on ice it was the nain in the coffin and I ordered my locker.

The locker in the front is odd to drive, takes some work, i would never let anyone else drive it in slick conditions but it does unlock and act like an open diff when you get off the gas. It is also real easy to do some really fun stuff LOL.

Thats my take on front diff options and slick weather, although being in Oklahoma i only have limited chances to test this stuff out.

Good point on the locker, I was thinking of a torsen type for the rear and a selectable locker for the front. On icy roads an open diff is what you want for sure, both wheels spin and you have nothing to keep your vehicle on the road. Having all 4 invited to the party in deep snow is nice though
