Where is the best place to purchase and what brand of valve covers that offer the largest amount of rocker arm clearance and are made well enough to not leak etc .

I'm in need of a set

What rockers? I had issues w/ my H/S and stage VI heads, the rockers over hang the head so I had to go w/ a "reverse lip" design (even had to grind on them) Summit sells a nice set of cast Aluminum units that look nice. If you want a "stockish" look you'll have to remove/modify the baffles.

A friend had a set like pictured for his small block, and took them off right away. The reverse lid holds oil, and he was dripping oil all over his clean engine bay, when taking them off.

Never had a problem with INDY cast covers either.

The cast ones won't clear the back side of the rocker arm

Well depending on what rockers and heads he has he might not have a choice.

ALWAYS throw the Fabricated valve covers on a Bench top belt sander, they can be way out of square as shipped. If they are flat they will seal.

Kinda pricey at $409 but I don't think you can beat the looks or quality. If you are thinking about a fabricated style valve cover, these look like the ones to buy. The HEMI valve cover is so expensive that they don't even list a price.

I've used Cal Customs, M/T, Mopar and some other cast aluminum covers on a lot of different motors with stock stamp steel, stock ductile iron, Crane extruded alumunim , Harland Sharp rollers to T&D single shaft system with no problems

i think the best bang for the buck is the $35 chrome summits. lot of rocker clearance, baffles, and a little heavier steel than stock. only down side i can see is the need for a chevy pcv, if you use one.

IMOI if you go with a sheet metal cover of any kind I would suggest looking for a billet rail one for sure. Most I have used required clearancing a tad.

Victor heads, Harland Sharp rockers

Too wide

The ones I linked will clear I'm sure, I'd like a cast cover but I don't think any of them are wide enough to clear

I have the Mancini fabricated covers with HS rockers and RPM heads. Not sure if they would clear the Victor versions though. With Superperformance gaskets, no leaks.

There are the ones I am using with Indy EZ's and HS rockers. However I did end up knocking out the baffles....

I use the ones from Mancini like Bigdad posted. I have Hughes 1.6 rockers that give me about .630 lift and I use the blue Moroso gaskets. Just bolted the covers on as I did not modify them any and they fit good and have not had any leaks. I like them alot. Oh and I use EZ heads. Ron

I've got a set of Victor M.W. heads on my bracket motor now with Hughes rockers, I'm replacing them with a set of Harland Sharp 1.6 roller rockers as soon as they build and ship them to me I've had two different sets of Valve covers on this motor so far, Cal Custom cast with four breathers on them and the current set of Indy cast covers to use with the new vacume pump. I'll let you know how the Harland Sharps clear the Indy cover in two weeks, hopefully

I called Hughes, ordered a set that should work for now

told him to ship them to the machine shop which is about 175 miles away

yep .. got the invoice, coming here

so, now weather permitting I'll have to drive 340 miles round trip just so we can get it finished and on the dyno by Monday and then I'll need to drive back down again next week

why can't people listen ?
