On a 69 RR how far does the long swith panel bezel go into the soft bottom dash trim? I have just got it started and it is stuck just inside the edge and I think it needs to go farther in. A 1 3/4" screw won't start where it is. Thanks Ronnie

It bolts solid to the dash frame so that tells you how far it needs to go. The column shold be dropped and the lower padded dash real loose so it will slide in place.

They use to just slid into place, but after 40 years the padding and vinyl get a little harder and smaller, making the fit a lot tighter.
Anyhow, try to soften up the vinyl pad with some good dressing and maybe a hairdryer to warm it up a bit..

The thing that might be hanging it up is the thumbwheel for the dash lights. All the switches are a fairly tight fit, but as I recall the thumbwheel cage is the worst.

Yep, I just argued with this last weekend.
Left the lower pad loose, took out the dimmer and headlight switch then wiped the outer part of the panel with sillycone spray on a rag. Went in pretty easy. Putting the switches back in was a bit slow but do-able.

I can't afford this. mark
