on a fairly well built BB street car or any street car with a carb for that matter, why would you want a pump that delivers over 8psi when you can get the same GPH at less?

You don't need a high dollar pump even for a moderate built big block. I run a Holley blue pump with a regulator to turn down the pressure to 7 psi . 505 stroker pump gas engine.

it's ok to butt heads, just don't do it with a butthead

And an Edelbrock or similar carb wants regulated to 5 psi or less to avoid overpowering the float/valve.

absolutely to every point made! and how much GPH do you really need, 72, 100, 110? realistically I would think 72 is more than enough even with a 6pac or 2 4's?

so a 500hp motor would need approx. 43 gallons per hour at 6lbs per gallon? this makes my head hurt

that's the minimum at the carb(s).

That is the SAE standard sitting still with the motor at a steady RPM, not accelerating As far as how much fuel you neeed is based on a lot more than the SAE standards Go to the track and find out If the car makes 300 HP it will neeed a lot GPH less than if it makes 500 HP Some racers get luckier than others with some fuel parts and have good result with what other racers have not so good results with I use to turn, adjust, the little Holley blue fuel regulators(one for each fuel bowl ) pressure up with the motor running until it would start to blow the needles off of the seats and leak into the boosters then turn them back down 1/2 lb (usually around 10.0 to leak, 9.5 lbs to race on )and race it My current set up has a BG 480 pump with a Magnaflow 4 port reg set at 5.5 lbs with the motor running, all mounted in front of the motor This motor is raced on E85 so it needs plenty of volume, not pressure

If you have overkill on your fuel delivery system you may want to think about a bypass regulator, that'll return the excess fuel supply back tot eh tank. This will keep thew pump from deadheading and heating up the fuel, it's also ensure that you have enough if you need it and the fuel will generally stay cooler by running back to the tank rather than heating up under the hood.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

nope, not having any issues with what I have except it's over 20 years old and the pressure is starting to get a little 'bouncy' and I've had to make an 'impact adjustment' a couple of time to get it going. probably time to replace it so I was looking at what is available and need to make sure that what I had was what I needed.
