What fails 1st in these boxes? I have a box in a 65 Plymouth that had no play till about 2 days ago, it felt a little crunchy and now it has 1.5 inches of free play in the center....What most likely failed? It's a bearing style box.

Free play where?
Steering wheel
or
Pitman arm?
If the steering wheel then I'd look at the coupler. If at the pitman, well Firm Feel here you come.
They say there are no such thing as a stupid question. They say there is always the exception that proves the rule. Don't be the exception.

As I was asking about the box wouldn't you guys assume the play is in the box....The pittman and other parts are tight....The free play is in the wheel. If you don't know about manual steering boxes, please dont reply.
