D100 regular cab short bed with j code. What would be yalls best guess as to the rarity of one of these? More than d code? I realize there are no numbers out there just wanting y'all's opinion.

In my opinion, the 400 motors got a bum wrap. They were good motors and worked well in work trucks. As far as numbers, I suspect many 400s were called 440s making it appear there were more 440 trucks then 400 trucks, but I bet reality is the other direction. Back in the day, I had a lot of guys tell me they had a rare 2 bbl carbed 440 motors. Yep, those 2bbl 440s were so rare you couldn't find tune up info for them. By 78, any big block truck was a rare item, the perception was they were harder on gas then a 360 truck, but at least for me, I always got better gas mileage from the 400. The only 440 truck I had was a gas hog. Gene

Would love to know whats on the equipment label. Now what would be rare would be a spirit of 76 truck with a bigblock...
Dinuba, California, Home of the PALOMINO ranch and 440 truck farm, where dodge trucks have a home. Have Four 1979 dodge PALOMINO trucks now.

Here are a couple of pics of equipment label. Vin on label does match. Am I reading this correctly? 16" wheels? It does still have the paint to match front bumper and green interior and 400. Also 9 1/4 limited slip 3.21.

16" wheels is correct and extremely uncommon. It is weirdly optioned. I love it. Nice save!!

I've owned quite a few of these old trucks over the years and never knew 16" wheels were an option on a half ton. It is very weirdly optioned. I've done some investigating and I am the third owner. The truck was originally a Albequerque Police Department truck. That explains a lot of the funky electronics under the hood and probably the funky options too. I just wish they had opted for the "D" in the fifth digit instead of the "j". I'm pretty pumped about the old truck. I'm not veering far from stock with this one. It won't be getting its 16" wheels back. I'm thinking lowered a bit with 15" steelies and dog dish caps.

I assume the 16s arent on it anymore. Nice score
No, the factory wheels are long gone. They've been replaced with some 15" white wagon wheels. I wish the originals were still on it.

How's the Clubcab doing?
Unfortunately life threw a few curves a few years back and the old club cab was sold. All good now though.
