Wondering if there is a easy way to tell the difference between a repop and a OE. I think I bought this before the repops were available about 2001 or so. Finally what are they worth, repop vs OE? The one I have is as close as flawless as possible, and I am picky. It has 2 holes in the base. I can take pics if that helps.
Thanks
Curt

I can tell pretty easily, post pics of the top lens, bezels. They made two styles, 70 and SOME 71's had the slip in bayonet style, later 71's and all later ones were the 2 bolt style. All other details were the same between the two years. The reproduction handles are all 2 bolt style, the bare handle is pretty close but is not made of two parts like originals and so unlike originals, are the same thickness top to bottom, the grips, bezels, and top lenses have differences that a trained eye will notice.

Scott...actually Newcomb had some pretty real looking repros he had done and used to peddle but kept pretty secret.
While sitting on the tailgate of his wagon at the Nats at least 15 years ago he set the odd one out now and then.
Top bezel taper same as original unlike repro, pattern lens, handle width, even lettering same size and in correct location on handle unlike repros.
He only had 1970 style slip in made.
Only give-away was grips were a bit more reddish, otherwise were pretty much dead ringers.

Yea I saw those. Newcomb was selling them on the sly to avoid legal issues because he was stamping them with HURST without permission. I had one in my hands back when I was selling the stainless steel ones, but even they had some minor differences I can spot and it wasn't just the grips. I haven't seen one in a while but they were way closer to the current Hurst (made for Hurst by gunslinger) versions though.

Looks good to me, but I'll let some others offer opinion...a better side view picture of the top bezel would be nice as well as a further back shot of the HURST letters and full handle.
Width shot of the bottom of handle would be nice also

Yea looks good for the most part but the lens is suspect. The shift pattern was actually molded into the back of the lens on originals, most reproductions are just flat, it should look 3 dimensional if original (the reproductions I used to sell were correct but you don't see many of those out there).

I think I just figured it out! Looks like a re-chromed handle with a set of my old hand cast urethane pistol grips! I had those made back about 15 years ago, only made a few and sold them. Top bezel looks like the reproduction I used to sell, the small nick at 1:00 O'clock is a mold flaw they all had. lower bezel looks to be one of mine as well. Appears to be someone else's top lens reproduction.

Thanks for the input. I dont think the shift pattern is molded in either. I have sold my challenger as a roller and still have the 4 speed stuff. Not too keen on taking a bath on the left overs.... So what is a fair price for this, or should I post this in the "WIW" section...
Thanks
Curt

I'd rate it as a nicely restored original 1971 and later handle. You'll see some insane asking prices for them on ebay, most don't sell so keep that in mind. Check on ebay for completed/sold comparable handles and set your price accordingly.
