Thanks, I still think I can come out on top in this but I'm stubborn. The bolt pattern is 5x4.5, the perches are the correct distance and since they are both iso-clamp I shouldn't need to change them. I measured the wheel spacing and it looks like my current wheels and tires will fit just fine since they already sit inside the fenders a bit.
Edit: I also plan on upgrading the discs on the rear and more modern lower offset wheels.

It's also the cone type Sure Grip. Test to see if it's working. Then, IF you take the differential out, take the SG unit to a machine shop with a copy of instructions on how to "rebuild" it. Wouldn't hurt to take a few thousandths off the small ends of the cones.

JohnRR, RickE, and a host of others are going to step in right now to tell you that differential is a POS. Well, it is, but it'll work for a while at least and you already have it. And the "rebuild" is really just a crutch to get it to work again for a while. But if done properly it should last for years, especially on a car that is not a daily driver.

Other notes: 3.55 or 3.23 gearsets can be found under most every Ramcharger or pickup, IIRC. Also NOS gearsets shouldn't cost an arm and a leg.

R.

Thanks. I've found some used gearsets for under $100 already. I also found some Jeep Liberty disc brake setups for sale for around $150. I figure all in I can have a decently strong rearend for under $500.
Either way its better than the 2.45 geared open 8-1/4". Im afraid to beat on it because the 440 should have enough power to kill it.
