I'm thinking about/planning to replace my stock 11" Drums with a dual caliper disc brake system. I've narrowed my options to Strange and Aerospace and wanted to solicit some feedback/opinions on these kits from you guys. (I'm going with Dual caliper setup since I footbrake and also like to put most my braking to the rear when on the brakes at the finish line, rather than locking up the front runners)

Does anyone have any experience both of these kits and have opinions on which one is better or what you like about one vs the other?

I prefer Strange..........simply because I think they are a better made setup.......but that's only my opinion.

I have strange brakes. And i gotta say that im hard to impress but these are doing that.

Putting most of your braking to the rear is a BAD idea...You ALWAYS want the front tires to lock up before the rears!!! When the fronts lock, you go straight...when the rears lock, you go sideways....

That's typically the theory but when running on 4" front runners, it doesn't take anything to lock them up (and when they lock up you don't go straight) and since I'm bracket racing I'm on the brakes pretty hard at the top end. So I adjust most of the braking to the rear and the car squats and pulls down better with the big slicks. (now if they locked up, it may make you go sideways but it take a lot to lock up a 14" slick)

So you have a very valid point in most scenarios but in my case, bracket racing with skinny's up front and 14" slicks out back, rear braking works better.

$100 difference? Strange, all day long. Depending on what's on the car, a master cylinder change may also be needed.

A single caliper set up will be plenty of brake for stopping. A dual system is useful if you footbrake and want to get up hard on the converter.

Whitch ever you choose you will NOT get the same brake force as with 11" drum brakes.

I can not really judge between the two because like most people here I have not used both companys products to judge but for me my aerospace brakes stop me on a dime without an issue

Most all the race cars that I've had the pleasure of helping work on, has had Aerospace all around.
My car has Strange on it. but that's what was on it when I bought it. My car also has an adjustable proportioning valve in between the front and
rear brakes too

Hi Wade,

I am looking at the Aerospace rear brakes that you set the link to, however they are vented rotors, and the Strange are single plate race rotors. I really like the Strange rear brake setup better, but my '69 GTX is used on both Street and Strip...how would the Strange hold up to street driving?

My car is not a cruiser, but would be more of a limited use street car, but also used at the strip.

I beleive what you think is going to happen and what will happen with dual rear calipers is totally different. I have driven several turbo cars including my own back years ago before bump boxes with dual calipers and it will lock up the rear tires in the blink of an eye. You cannot jam them hard much less turn up the prop valve where the rears are really aggressive. I think you are asking for trouble.

I couldn't say what one is better but I do know that Aerospace Components are running a 25% off special on there website.

The way mine is setup is, the proportioning valve is used to make the rears less aggressive. FWIW

The Strange would be lighter in rotating weight, may not take the heat of street driving, but the Aerospace is vented, heavier, and would take street use for sure.

If the single disc strange would be fine for street driving, then I would go for those. I know they would hold better, maybe?

I do have light-weight Wilwood vented rotors in the front, but like Wade, I have narrow front runners.

I would appreiciate any suggestions, and also per my note above in this thread.

As long as you mentioned Wilwood I made a rear axle bracket that held 2 calipers and I use a hydraulic hand brake for the E brake on the extra rear caliper.

I don't think they recommend the Strange brakes for street driving but call them up and ask to be sure.

The Aerospace ones I have the link to are nickle coated and would probably take street driving better.

I think most people typically use Wilwood for aftermarket Street brakes

Do you think I would need the dual caliper unit you have a link to hold 700 HP on launch? Or would a single hold it?

This is the general thought on dual calipers but I know a lot of cars doing just fine with single caliper with that much or more HP. It really depends more on how loose your converter is and how high you want to stall it on the line.

Thank you for the reply, I do have a 1969 GTX, so it is a very big and heavy car...that is why I thought about the dual caliper that you posted...my converter will flash around 5k now with the additional HP and Torque.
