If the car isn't burning the tires up something is wrong.

Lets assume I did all that (and I did for the most part as far as I remember)....

whats the culprit then

I remember checking the firing order and tracing the wires to each plug. The idle mixture screws are set to 1 1/4 turns out. The accelerator pump is middle setting...the choke is connected and working. The main jets are stock but the metering rods and springs have been changed, I remember orange springs. I had a slightly more aggressive cam with HP manifolds....he has shorty headers so that tradeoff should work for him. I need to probably connect a vacuum gauge and check his timing...my 1982 Sunpro Timing Light should do the job well. I remember he is runnin 906 heads. and that Dominator....the single plane is a mismatch for me again because he wants the car for cruising....he doesn't romp on it

Could the valves be adjusted wrong? He has adjustable rockers...I can't even get in there to do that adjustment...Might have to take another mechanic friend of mine and tell him what to do and bring the sequence card.

I will be honest when I say...I gave up working on Holleys, I do not race on weekends...I dont need power valves and cams to fine tune my motor...I like to get in...and GO!.....thats what he wants...thats why the Holley is bad for him as he isn't mechanically inclined.

My next move for my own vehicle is to leave the dual 500s and move to a FAST EFI down the road for even more ease of use and performance.

Holleys are no different than any other carb. Rarely does a PV blow out.
If his valves aren't adjusted right it could cause a host of issues indeed. I'm also wondering if he's sucking oil thru the intake. This could cause some detonation issues.
One thing you do have to check is if the choke is getting sucked shut under WOT and load. I wired mine wide open after an issue at the track.

Just farting in the wind until you check/replace the orange box for one thing.

while I've never had an orange box go bad, when they do they seem to start breaking up around 3000rpm or so. So if the car runs and then falls off at 3k then that could be it. Easy enough to figure out. run up to Advance and get a $19.99 box and give it a try.

Talked to Hughes last week...see what TC they recommend and they concur on the 2500 he has in there now...if possible...guy said to degree the cam and see where it lands.

Put her into 2nd gear and floor it and see what RPM it flashes to. I dont have a tach like that...I have a digital on the back of my broken SnapOn timing Light I can use but its going to be all over the place.

Only other thing the guy said was to get rid of the Dominator manifold because the plenum is too large for such a small cam. I have a Low Rise Performer Dual Plane sitting on my shelf....so we can test and eliminate that variable first...

Beyond that...its winter...so this will become a spring time mission as his car is in a car port and not a garage

I never was a fan of the single....I like powerband on a dual plane from idle to 5500....I dont need the pain of a single from 2500-6500...
