I was reading this article about the timing chain recall
http://www.hotrod.com/news/chrysler-hemi-timing-chain-defect/
Was wondering what you guys are using for a timing chain?
I know Manley sells a double roller 73205 and 73206
Are there any others?

Thanks!

That doesn't affect the generation of hemis that most people use for the classic builds. 2009+ is the eagle 5.7.

I'm using a 6.1 timing set from mopar. That's all I would use in terms of factory parts. I don't know anything about the Manley parts.

Here is a pic of the stock chain on the left vs. Manley on the right

The Manley looks beefier but is it really stronger?
Stock chain is for stock applications but how is it for sustained high rpm use?
Road racing for example?

Wade ran a stock unopened 6.1 at several track events and the big bend open road race. No issues at all.

The factory stuff is tougher than people give credit.

The only non factory parts in my shorrtblock are the cam and valve springs.

Only draw back to the Manley chain is I had to grind the timing cover a good bit to make it fit

It looks like there are other double roller timing chain sets out there

Lunati 95505
http://www.jegs.com/i/Lunati/638/95505/1...BQ1QaAhMs8P8HAQ

Jegs 555-20480
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/se...p;storeId=10001

Howards 94332
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/hrs-94332/overview/make/dodge

Comp Cams 7114
http://www.jegs.com/i/Comp-Cams/249/7114/10002/-1

Looks like a generic set that all the aftermarket companies sell. The keyway says "Made in USA" but I'm betting everything else is chinese.

So I guess it's what kind of take out you prefer
Mexican or Chinese

Funny that you mention it.

A lot of the Hemi Stuff is made in Mexico.

Most, but not all. It's all between USA, Germany and Mexico to the best of my knowledge.

From what I've seen is that the tensioner slides or the tensioner plate will break before the chain will.

I've seen the same. Mostly on 5.7 backing plates. One of our 392's for a shop car had a broken tensioner plate and the nylon portion just fell into the oil pan. That was so incredibly lucky.

BTW Jerry...I called the shop the other day to ask you a question and the guys told me you retired?

It's not which one is stronger, but which one lasts longer and keeps the camtiming correct.

It was just time to move on. Currently in the process of relocating into a new shop. My shop this time.

I would use stock or Crower. I just put a brand new $91 Mopar set in my build.

Mopar to the bone!!!

I paid $169 shipped for the Comp 7114 from Amazon. It's still on there for that price. Summit and Jegs description says it has a Torrington bearing, but mine doesn't. Comp's site was giving me fits just now when I was trying to search and read their description.

It appears the Drag Paks run the stock 6.1 chain 05037579AB.

I guess we can assume the drag pak project engineers did their homework?

Is there a difference in the engines between the cars and pickups? I have a 2011 ram with the 5.7 with MDS, no mention of recall for the these engines? I assume there is a difference in parts or no one has cried enough on these engines yet.
