I am doing basically that same thing. According to my friend who owns his own bodyshop and is instructing me throughout my project you are doing it right. After paint and the first two coats of clear, He had me wet sand with 1000 then 1500. Then we reshot it with actually three more caots of clear and then wet sanded with 1500 then 2000. I am using the hard rubber blocks, and the 3 by 5" bendable "cards". Then I cut it and buffed it using the 3m products you describe. being careful to clean the buffing wheel with the roller between uses.

This has seemed to work well so far. Basically the same as you are doing. Becareful with the buffer and wet sanding around edges or close to them. Goood Luck

I use a paint stck with the 1000 wrapped around it with plenty of water. I also use sanding film with my air advantage palm sander and it goes really fast.

I start with 1500 and then 2000 and then 2500. I don't use a block, just my hand.

I use a thick paint stick,....old school man!

If the clear is a little textured, I'll start at 1000.....if it's smooth, I'll start with 1500, go to 2000 still using the stick,...I like to put a little soap, very mild dishwashing soap in a spray bottle with HOT water, that's been filtered,.....you'd be surprised the amount of grit in city water! that can scratch you paint!....then I finish by hand with 2500,....if its a dark color esp. black, I go to 3000 grit by hand......prefer 3M buffing compounds, and finesseeit 2000, and 3000 polishes

We D.A. the clear with a special 1500 paper that has a foam backing, then work our way to 3000 with the 3M block or a paint stick before buffing.
