I had a pretty exciting ride yesterday when my car started pulling to the right,(toward the centerline) and would not come back, until I backed off the throttle! This has not happened other than some starting line, 60 ft. or so issues we had before the car was scaled.
I checked my time slips and this was after 330 ft. because the those times are about the same.
We looked under the car and cannot find anything broken. Tire pressure was even. The adjuster nut on the right ladder bar was not tight, and may have lost some preload, but the launch was good.
My question is , does a car tend to pull right if you are out of the groove to the right? And vice versa for the left? Or what is the usual scenario for out of the groove?

It should go the opposite direction of the tire that has traction, so yes. Just be sure to look the 4 link/ladder bars over real good. Make sure there isn't a heim joint getting ready to strip threads or something. Good luck.

If the race track has a clearly defined and/or narrow groove and you get the right tire out of it, that tire will loose traction, while the left is still in the groove and getting good traction, effectively turning the car to the right. Same thing going the other way. Some tracks are very bad to do this, esspecially when the track temp drops below about 65*. Heavy door cars seem to be effected more.
Most of the time our cars are a pleasure to drive. It's times like this that they get our attention.
Something that has happened to me twice over the years is the rim screws get broken on one side of one tire, allowing the tire to "twist up" on the rim. The car feels like it is pulling one way under power and when you lift it feels like it's going the opposite way. Scarry ride.

Great info Guys!
I hope that is what the problem is, but will do a close look at everything.
I had won that round on a red light, and was trying to get a time run in. Instead it ended our day of racing.
Thanks!

At Mopars at the Strip last April I thought something was wrong when it started pulling toward the wall around 1000ft mark. Stayed in it pulled back & won the round. Took me a minute to realize that it was the mean crosswind caught me as soon as I passed the end of the grandstands.

My Valiant has done that before, only at Ohio valley.
I think it's because of how they spray the track. They use it sparingly.

I guess I will need to be a lot more careful about staying in the groove. When I lifted the car shot to the left as I had been trying to steer away from the center line. It was a real WTF moment!
Yes, it was at Ohio Valley Saturday. They sprayed the track, but, I guess I got too far over the edge of the spray.
The guy I was pitted next to had the same problem, in the same lane, but I think his car is known for that ,and didn't think it was the lane.

Hey Larry,
Great picture of your two loves.
I didn't get a good pass to compare the carbs. First run I shifted late and hit the limiter, ran through the 1/8th in second gear. 6.01 @ 115.73. Second run was the out of groove pass. So I don't know when I will be able to get a clean pass on the new carb. the 330 ft. time is not as good as the Demon was!
This carb and manifold swap, was an expensive experiment! LOL
I will be very careful to get in the groove next time, that is or sure.
Thanks,
Mark

Mine done that and after checking everything else it ended up being a bad front tire.I brought a new set of front tires and they work great for about 6 trips to the track and from one week to the next it went to pulling not bad but a little to the right.I was told by an older retired racer I bet you have a bad tire,I thought no way but swap sides on front next time pulled to the left. The tire had no signs of any thing wrong no nots, did not shake it was just bad.It looked perfect called the tire company and they said send both tires back & sent me two new tires and no more problems.
