purchased this august 2013, it always read 240 degrees. summitt sent me a replacement sending unit. still read 240. today i finally got back to the car and replaced the guage with a sun pro from autozone. guess what? car runs at 195. has stewart warner went down hill this much? i have the same guage in my challenger, purchased guage in 1993, and it still works.

I'd say (likely) just Murphys Law. You might send it back & see if you can get credit since it's new (& it'd give them an opportunity to examine their defective merchandise) which will help them (& the next customer)

I'm curious.....does each gauge have it's own specific sending unit? Mixing them may not provide an accurate temp. due to calibration. But 195* does seem to be a more realistic operating temp.

I've had great results from Autometer products for many years.

A lot have their own senders ohmed to their specs.I know I had an old Sun temp gauge from the 60s.I had an almost new sender for it.The senders are impossible to find for them at least at the time they were.It borught over 200 bucks.Guy was happy to get it and wanted to know if I had any more.Rocky
