hey guys I see different B5 blue cars and to my eye they kinda look different in "intensity" and brightness. Of course the light plays a huge part in this.

But Im wondering if the earlier B5 Blue cars were a brighter blue (with less black in the mix) than the later ones?

Ive seen some 68 Chargers that really "pop" in B5 and thats the look Im after.

Is the 68 mix/code different from the others and if so, what is the correct paint code for the brighter B5 Blue ?

Or maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me

Anyone know for sure?

this thread should be moved to a different section...but...yes there were very different shades of b5 blue-1969 it was eb5 1970 was eb5 1971 was gb5 and i think i remember kb5 in about 1974...all different formulas. i think the 68 blue was different again...i like the 69/70 b5 the best.
all the best
frank.

Also the brightest blue was on 68 Plymouths. Dodge color was B-5 and Plymouth was electric blue irredessant. Birdtracker

Don't completely agree here.

71 B5 is much brighter than 69-70 B5.
I find that the 68 QQ-1 is fairly close to the 71 Brite Blue, the 71 is a brighter color. Very bright, that's why I chose it for my Barracuda.
Sitting the 71 color next to the 69-70, the earlier color looks more subdued.

Attached are pictures of my 71 B-5 car. The wheels were originally painted for a 68 Barracuda, so they are in QQ-1. Lighting makes it vary, but the QQ-1 is just a bit darker than the 71 B-5. Of course, spray technique will make every color vary.

By the time you add in all the different manufacturers of paint, clear coats, or single stage, and just as importantly that the original base mixing materials may be no longer available due to regulations, the best bet is to find car that is recently painted and get the manufacturer and formula for that paint.

Good info fellas.

RFT - do you have any shots of the car painted in QQ1 in direct /bright sunlight?

Im after the lightest/brightest B5/Bright Blue metallic that was made b/w 68-71.

Any tips/pics would be much appreciated !

Q1 really changes color depending on the lighting conditions.
Here is a test spray of Q1 without a flash.

with flash

This picture was taken at Carlisle out in the sun.
