I'd expect around 2003, when the 5.7 Hemi came out.

edit, per wikipedia

Quote:

The 5.9L Magnum was available until the 2003 model year, when it was replaced with the 5.7L Hemi V8 engine.

I have heard 2003, but I have not seen one newer than 2001.

I'm pretty sure the gas 5.9 mag was still the standard engine in 2002 Ram 3/4 & 1 ton pickups...

The 2500 and 3500 got the 5.7 HEMI in 2002, a year before it was offered in the 1500 model.

Yep they were done in 03. Late 02 and 03 blocks had 5 bolt motor mount bosses instead of the earlier 3 bolt style so they could be fitted in the new DR body style rams. Hemis came out first in 03 in the DR 3/4 and 1 tons. No hemis ever in BR/BE bodies.

2003 was the last year for the 5.9L in the Durango. It could still be had in the Dakota for 2004.

As stated the HEMI was introduced in the 2003 HD DR, and was a late availability option on the 2003 1500 DR.

You are mistaking another casting number for the casting date number.

The casting date number is really hard to mistake for anything else. Once you see it you'll know.
Here's a quote from Hot Rod Magazine:

"Month/Day/Year: This method is used on most cast-iron parts, such as cylinder blocks, cylinder heads, and intake and exhaust manifolds. Example: 8 19 69 = August 19, 1969.

You sure on that?? 2002 3/4 & 1 tons still used the Ram gen II body style. So you're saying they put Gen III hemi in the Gen II ram. I don't think they did that.

02 is old body style in the 2500-3500 and never came with a hemi, that came in 03 with the new ugly body.

They used 5.9s for most of 03 in the 1500 I have personally seen both but mostly 5.9s.

The durango last year was 03 for the 5.9(I just sold an 02 R/T) then they changed to the butt ugly body for 04 with 4.7 and 5.7s.

The dakota did not get a 5.9 in 04 even though they had R/Ts (they used a 4.7 and some stickers).

In any case the last 5.9 was used in an 03
