Are you sure its not the water "IN" the heater core? My dads truck does this. Like it has a little air in the system when you first start it.

radiator is full I thought that myself...sounds like it runs from about middle way of the truck to the door on passenger side..heat works great...ac went out about 3 weeks ago some how..driving down the road and just stop cooling put Freon in it and still nothing compressor sounds like its knocking ..but I don't think that has anything to do with the water sound as its been doing it a little longer then the ac going out...

If you aren't getting water leaking on the floor, just hearing it slosh, check the cowl drains.

It takes gasoline to interest me.

My 2001 had the same thing, it was a bad heater core that leaked into the HVAC system and sloshed around. You only have to take the entire dash out to replace the heater core, DAMHIK!

No water ever leaked anywhere, but I heard the sloshing for over a year, then the heat would not work that winter. The A/C was still functioning though.

test your radiator cap..... seen this a ton over the years. If it tests bad, replace it. It will take some time to work the air out. Luckily we have a driveway about a block from work that has to be at least a 10% grade. We'll run them at 2500 rpm with the nose in the air for 5 minutes or so. Works the air out pretty quick. Also make sure the overflow hose is secure at the nipple on the radiator. Old age made them start leaking air into the system from a loose fitting hose.

Neither is the problem! I have the same issue since doing my intake pan, It only has air in it. My truck didn't do it until I done the intake. Now it does. I need to get the air out as well. And I haven't lost a drop of coolant so I know it's not leaking.

Well mine isn't leaking and it makes the same sound. Didn't make that sound until I fixed the intake gasket,

explain how you can get water sloshing under your dash from an intake gasket? and mine is a diesel. there is nothing in there but the heater core and A/C evaporator.

Owned my truck from day 1 and it never made this sloshing noise until I changed the coolant. Despite attempts at bleeding out the air, could never fully resolve.
Then I got a vacuum filler for coolant and now, no more noise.
Got this tool http://www.uview.com/index.cfm?DSP=Produ...ng&id=45700
Very slick and makes refill very easy. A must on most modern engines that have miles of coolant passages or Benz products with 2 heater cores, where air can get trapped.

I have something similar to that but mine locks on like a radiator cap. I didn't use mine when I done my intake, but I have to change my thermostat now so I will to make sure all the air is out.

Well, changed my t-stat today. Used my vacuum tool to pump down the coolant system. Guess what? Sloshing in the dash is GONE!

I would still love for you to explain how that has anything to do with water sloshing in the dash? only water running through the dash is in the heater core. unless it's leaking into the heater box there is no way it can slosh. your intake or thermostat has absolutely nothing to do with it. if you have not run it in a while the leaking water could have evaporated or leaked out. sometimes on your carpet.

the sloshing noise will come from having air trapped in the heater core.i think that fancy filler pushes air out

never happen, and the reason I say that is there is not enough volume of water in a heater core to make a sloshing sound. take a look at an heater core and you should understand.

On my 1995 Ram Magnum 5.9 V8
I have heard
"running water noises"
from the passenger side of the dash
each time i have changed coolant.

It has happened with
50/50 antifreeze mix
straight water
and Evans NPG coolant, which is about as viscous as maple syrup.

I have been able to get rid of the water running like noise by parking the truck on a steep uphill and running the fully warmed up engine at 1500 RPM for ten to twenty minutes.

It is interesting to know that a vacuum filling technique helps on coolant. Vacuum filling certainly seems to help on brake fluid fills.

I know I presently have a slow coolant weep on the upper driver side corner of the timing cover gasket.
I suspect this is one source of air getting in the coolant system.

Small coolant leaks at the timing cover gasket corners seems to be common on older Magnum V8s.

I think we are talking about 2 different sounds/noise. running water vs sloshing. the leaking heater core sounds like a box full of water and usually happens when the vehicle is moving or turning which equals slosh. a running water sound could happen with the vehicle setting still and motor running.

you will also get a nasty smell when the heater core has leaked for a while

When the air is trapped at the highest point, which is the core, you get this noise. Universal problem across all manufacturers, which is why the tool was made.

If you have a core leak you also have similar noise from water moving around in the box and from the air introduced into the core from the leak.

Use the tool and you will quickly see you have a system leak. When you go to pull vacuum you will see the vacuum won't hold.
Up to you to figure out where the leak is.

slow-twig.... it does sound like "sloshing". I've seen it, lived it more than a few times on the older BR/BE Dodge rams. Start them up cold in the morning and it will sound like a garden hose running.....I chit you knot!

only 47? I was working on cars when you were still in high school. did you miss the post where I described two different issues? saying your solution to your problem would correct a bad heater core is wrong, but you are ASE certified you should know that. and i'll bet I had ASE certification before you ever thought of it? don't be so dam thin skinned

Well it's not water running into the evaporator!! Like I mentioned way back..... bad radiator cap, air leak at the hose from the overflow can contribute to this airpocket which will lead to this issue.

slow-twig.... it does sound like "sloshing". I've seen it, lived it more than a few times on the older BR/BE Dodge rams. Start them up cold in the morning and it will sound like a garden hose running.....I chit you knot!

Jboy thats not a heater core problem..

Well it's not water running into the evaporator!! Like I mentioned way back..... bad radiator cap, air leak at the hose from the overflow can contribute to this airpocket which will lead to this issue.

it will lead to one of the possible issues. not the only cause

grow up, and don't be so dam sensitive. you are not the only person on the planet with a little knowledge. there will always be a different view which is a good thing.

ok guys same problem with a new twist...lol I changed my radiator out the weekend and put a new cap on and new coolant also..now I still have the sound of water running when moving but now the heat works sometimes...if I sit with the truck running and the fan off then turn the fan on it blows hot or warm air while driving it blows just enough to defrost the windshield ....now could this be from the air pocket some of the guys was talking about??? its just crazy how this stuff works now days...

Sure sounds like air in the system.

You could do it the easy way, raise one of the heater hoses above the radiator cap. put a flush tee in it and fill it the last little bit from the flush tee. Leave the cap on it while doing this.

well I had a freeze plug come out the driver side head lost all the new coolant so I had to repair that..anyway I ordered a new surge tank while at it..with all the coolant and water out the system I changed the heater core hoses around to flow the opposite way then I took the plug out so that all the air would come out as I refilled the system...I filled the system and watched the bubbles as they came out the hole and then I started the truck to let it warm up as it did I filled the system til the coolant was running out the bleeder hole I tighten it up and top the system off...so now no running water sounds and the heat is so hot im loving it..thanks guys for all the help..now if I could get this transmission to be fixed .lol

What about just doing the refill with the truck jacked up in the front?

I want my fair share
