70 383 30 0ver approx. 375=400 HP Voodoo cam deck has been decked and 906 heads rebuilt and surfaced. I'm not a carb. person so I need to get some ideals on a new carb. The comp. is approx. 9.3 to 1. I had a Edlebrock 800 Thunder on it before and it seemed to be running rich and it just didn't run very good. So what kind and size would be good ? What is every ones thoughts on this? Thanks Again Ronnie

Looks like a 750 cfm is good..The 800 you had should have worked ok but is a little large..may have just been a carb problem there..750 holley with vac secondarys...

The 800 is a bit large for the engine. 750 would be my max size for it.
You did get the tuning kit for the carb right?
You also did not give a wholeot of info on the engine. What exact cam?
Headers?
Etc...

Depending on what your trying to do& have in the engine and the cars set up, converter, rear gear, tire size, etc.... You may even be able to use a smaller 650!

There have been several threads on this subject lately. I believe the best out-of-the-box street carbs today are the new Street Demons. If the car will see more street duty, the 625 would be the better choice.

I agree that a 750 would be the largest carb for it. The 383's I've messed with did not like big carbs like a 440 does. I had a mild 383 w/ big valve 906s, 9.5:1 compression, MP 484/284 cam...it ran WAYYY better w/ a 750 than it did when I tried my 830 holley DP on it.

I would use a Holley 950 HP # 80496-2 or -3 They don't actually flow 950 CFM,they flow less , but they do work great out of the box I've used several of them on bigger C.I. drag race motors and smaller pump gas street motors like yours

I hear ya Cab and generally go bigger but ALL carbs can use a touch here and there and those "race carbs" are generally rich down low and have too much emulsion............

I second the new street demon. I have used three so far 2 625's and one 750. Never happier with out of box performance. All reguired 1/4 turn tighter air door but other than that dial in the idle screws and speed and then just go. We are waiting now for right motor to hit dyno so we can make direct comparison between 750 and our quick fuel 750.

The cam 475/494 Voodoo with Hp manifolds,DP4B intake, 323 gears with a 2800 stall. Motor is 30 over with block decked and the heads shaved on it. Has KB pistons and is suppose to be about 9.3-1 on compression. It is an auto. I did get the tuning kit but I think I will be better off getting another carb. I don't remember the back tires they are big 15" ones that would fit the car. I just have never had good luck out of the edlebrocks. Ronnie

The 800 should have worked well. It probably needed some adjustment, they all will. I like the old school 750DP. easy to tune and works on anything from a mild 340 to a 440. Just have to tune them.
