Good Afternoon All

Have the carpet and trunk mat out of the '68 Bee for some panel replacement. Is the addition of sound deadner worth the expense? If so, what is decent brand to use? Can you use it inside the door panels also?

Thanks to all who respond.

"worth the expense" is of course very subjective.

If it was mine, in any near daily driver, absolutely. I like loud cars, but not inside.

I bought this from Amazon. Installed it ('70 Challenger Convertible) on the entire floor pan (front & rear) as well as sections on the inside of the doors, trunk, etc. Adheres well, and is Butyl rubber backed (doesn't smell). Great product, great price.

Many sellers, like this Amazon one and Eastwood, don't want to reveal how much their insulation weighs. If the delivery guy staggers to your door with the stuff, it's too much weight. Better to search previous posts here about aircraft insulation.

I use the product from www.raamaudio.com on my floors, ceiling, and doors in my '69 Super Bee with a 3" exhaust.

I'm glad that I did it, and its quieter than it was, but I'm sure that nothing will make it "new car quiet" on the inside. I can have a conversation with the passenger, but its definitely a raised voice conversation. Roll down a window, and you might as well have not done anything.

I wonder if you'd see a benefit on a convertible? I'm going to use something on the inside of the doors to make them sound more solid for sure. Maybe on a convertible, it would be more for reducing some rattles than anything else.

However Weight/mass is a very effective in reducing noise transmission, especially at lower frequencies, compared say to anything fiberglass, there is no free ride.

I used Fat Mat Mega Mat from eBay, big difference. Put it everywhere, including inside the door body panels but not inside the door panels. This pic is from another post, but it should give you the idea.

As mentioned above, the effective sound dampers are heavy. Plenty of asphalt or rubber plus metal. I did not want the weight and used "dynalight" (floors only). Basically a strong foam rubber. It helps with heat quite a bit, sound maybe a little.

The heat reduction was worth it to me. Weight not so much. As mentioned, it depends on what you want/like.
