Can someone please take a look at these pics and tell me if there is something odd about the blower motor set up on this car. Something doesn't seem right. Car is a 1970 challenger convertible. I have an air dash in the car, but I am not positive it was an original air car. These are older pics I downloaded as a group, from when I first attempted to clean up the engine bay, but a couple are of the area I am talking about.

The things I wonder about are: is the blower motor suppose to be mounted on the outside?

It has some pretty visible seams or seam sealer, is this factory or where someone peiced in a blower motor?

Lastly, is it in the correct location? I always thought it looked a little too close to the passenger inner fender.

I mainly question this because the previous owner did a lot of really crude stuff to the car as it was previously painted up before I got it. (ie; shoddy body work and all).

It's hard to see those pics but after a looking closely I see what you're asking...Yes, it looks like someone added the A/C blower motor section to your firewall...If it fits in the correct position in the heater box you should be OK...So are you saying that the section in question is seam-sealed in ??? .. The A/C blower motor does install from the engine compartment so you're safe there...There is a rubber seal that is installed on the A/C motor{mounts between the firewall and motor} and will have 3 rubber tabs and small metal washers to isolate the motor from the mounting nuts...

The blower motor on an A/C car installs from the engine compartment. A non A/C cars blower motor installs from the inside.

It appears as though seam sealer is around most of the blower motor. However, I will not know for sure until I clean all the paint away from that area. I could be fine with it, if I knew it was in the right area and only needed to be welded in, but I am not even sure of that. Maybe if someone had some basic measurements of it's location that would help.....anyone???

Note the radiator opening for a 22" radiator, an original AC car would have the opening for a 26" radiator.
