Hey guys,

Saw a car that kind of made me wonder. It's a 318 car in pretty much all original paint, etc. But it has a bulge hood, buckets, rally cluster and a few more options. Hood is original to the car. No stripes or anything. Just wondering if the Rallye package was available on a 318 car. I know most were 340s but I was just curious.

Thanks!
Paul

it was in fact the standard engine on Rallyes, when R/Ts were down, not anymore Big Power, but handling become standard instead, such as front and REAR sway bar, front disc, bug rear drums, powered brakes and steering... all this was an automatic standard option were was an option before.

There is no A57 on the tag. However, it is a Lynch Road car and it looks like they may not have put it on the tag? Appears to have all the standard Rallye options.

Does it have V21 on the tag? That is pretty much the only code hinting on a Rallye for Lynch Road tags. No A57 on any Lynch Road tags that I have seen 72-74.

Well the plot thickens. There's no V21 on the tag. Car does have a rear sway bar that is original. Here's the tag info:

25125 221357 030 981063

G11 G36
V1Y I V6X
JY6 H6L3 HL2 419 E35191
E44 D34 WH23 G3A 224XXX

Looks like it's an export car that should have black stripes. Why no V21 I wonder? What are the numbers across the top of the tag?

Pretty sure V21 was not part of the A57 package so not all Rallye cars would have the stripes.

Does the car in question have hood pins too?

Car does have hood pins.

Does being an export car make it any more rare? Sure wish it was a 340 car!

Barry's post above shows V6X as part of the "RALLYE PACKAGE" and NOT available separately from that OPTION.

Here's an old pic of my brother's '73 Rallye 400 auto w/3.55s - original paint, aftermarket body-side-mouldings & NO stripes.

He also had an original paint 340 auto RALLYE with the V6R stripe & nothing on the hood, I'll see if I can find a pic.

Here's a picture of the car. Not the best. I'll have to inspect more tomorrow and see if it's been painted. It looked mostly original, but I'm almost wondering if they removed the stripes early on.

Npt trying to hijack this thread but did all 73 rallyes have hood pins? My car had the bulge hood but no hood pins.

Odd that it almost has the same body-side-mouldings (as well as the same vinyl top & interior) that my brother's GK6 car had (he bought it in San Diego about 30 years ago) I wish I had the fender tag info. There is a theory going around that an "E3xxxx" VON is an EXPORT ordered car that was originally delivered stateside, most probably to a returning US serviceman. EXPORT ordered cars are definitely RARER, but I don't believe it has any bearing on value.

as far I know and have learnt...

mid body side stripes were part of the package... never have known about a delete option of these.

V21 could be the blackout hood finish over the bulgde ? if so, not all Rallyes where with them since PHASERED stripes ( reflective ) didn't have a matched finish for them over the buldge ( or deck lid stripe ) just black stripes. SOOOOO... not all rallyes got V21 I guess

hood pins were optional.

On 74, other Chargers with mid body side rallye stripes weren't Rallyes... Springs specials got them... and SEs could get the option. Anyone of them were rallye.

Buddy of mine owned a 73 ralley charger. Orignal paint (red) 318 car. Ralley dash sway bars. Buldge hood no stripe on it any where. And I dont think it had hoop pins

My '74 Charger is a Rallye with a 318 and a 4-speed.The A57 code is only on the build sheet, not the tag. I'll have to check the tag and sheet for the stripe codes.

Yes, Rallye was an option for 318. They never came with any engine callout emblems on hood.

I have a power buldge hood that has its factory paint has no vents at rear of the hood so its a later 73/74 hood. It clearly has the holes for hood call out. No chips around the holes leaves me to belive it came factory that way
