I recently purchased a 1998 Cherokee Classic 4.0 with a cracked cylinder head. It is a clean 2wd with only 118K miles. What years of heads will directly bolt on? I am fixing this for my 16yo son who just got his license last week. Thanks!

Both '91-95 (casting #7120) and '96-98 (#0630) will work. #7120 is said to be a little beefier.

I believe the later model stuff will also work, only difference being there is provisions for the coil on plug setup. I don't believe it is in the way though.

Great vehicles. My daughter's '01 has around 135k and she loves it.

My '98 has been great too. Only thing is now I can't get the heater to blow hot. I've flushed out the heater core, and the other water parts. It will get hot till I start the blower, then it just blows cooler and cooler till it's all cold. I've been told about an air direction door that could be not working right.

How did you flush out the heater core? Also, are both hoses to the heater core hot with the heat on?

As for later heads on the '98, pretty sure that the '99-04 #0331 heads require a different exhaust manifold. Plus they are known for problems with cracks.

Took the heater core lines off at the nipple fittings (on the engine). Flushed them with semi-high pressure water, back and forth till the water ran clean and open. I think the both heater hoses are hot.

Yeah, sounds like an air door issue.
