I'm thinking about this Auto-Gage 2302. Anybody ever owned one of these, and how bright is the light?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Auto-gage-Tachom...3c7&vxp=mtr

Also, give me your do's & dont's, likes & dislikes with tachometers.

Thanks-

never been a fan of Auto Gage, spend a bit more & buy Auto Meter, not so chinese knock off looking. also don't mount the shift light in your direct line of vision. they're so bright when racing at night.

We have an Auto-Gage tach in my dads car and that thing is a pile. Needle sweep is not smooth and shift light settings dont always take.

Also, be weary of purchasing parts like this from Ebay, lots of chinese knock offs out there that work even more poorly than the originals.

I agree, spend the extra bucks and get a quality piece.

I run a flush mounted VDO in my home made alum. cluster in the dash that replaced the plastic insert and have an MSD shift light on top of the steering colume behind the steering wheel. Looks like a speedo which I don`t have...........

IMO buy the best tach you can afford. Leave the AutoGage stuff to the kids so they can look cool.

Lotsa votes for the expensive stuff..... I guess I should have known what to expect from this crowd. Good advice though. I don't want a 5" monster tach, want something that looks a little more "period streed hot rod". I do like the AutoMeter that Dustin posted. Was hoping to not spend over 2-bills though. If anyone else has ideas on a good 3-3/4" with a light, Thats what I'm interested in.

Thanks for the reply's

Anybody have any experience with the Autometer Street Tach?

The 3 3/8 SW tach I posted is around $100-$110 depending where you get it which is less than the low-line Auto Meter tach you're considering. It's also more 'period correct' than any Auto Meter tach you'll find, more so even than their 'Traditional Chrome' line which has a modern typeface.

I'm installing an AutoMeter Sport Comp in my bee as I get the under dash components installed. It's a monster, but I need it at my age... going to attach it to my console where the early cars mounted the tach. The console actually has the mounting points cast into it, although covered with the tin that has woodgrain on it. I painted the cup to match the body of the car.

I’m listening.
