I've seen several pictures of cars with the body side molding running the whole length of the car and several pictures of body side molding that stops at the front wheel.

Which is correct for a 71 Barracuda or were both available?

Well, that's the first picture that i have ever seen in my lifetime without the moulding on the front fender
Never seen that before in all these years.
I will pass along this bit of information for you though.
I factory ordered a 71 Cuda with the vinyl side moulding option, and it runs the full length of the car.
Kept that car for over 38 years.

That car with 2/3 rds of the moulding on it looks dumb.

Thx Jim! The reason I asked was I saw a picture of a white 71 Barracuda that also had the molding stop at the front wheel and it got me thinking!

I could be wrong (as always... ), but the factory moldings were always full length. Back in the day, many dealers added aftermarket moldings, and that's probably what the shorter ones are...

X2
I would agree with that.

Full length moulding on my old 71.

(Now don't have a heart attack. I put the 70 hockey stick decal on it as personal modification to the car)
As you can see, it could have been done, if ma Mopar wanted to do it.

Tom: The placement of the full length moulding on the car in your first picture is too high up on the car. Compare it to the one on the green 'cuda. These 71 mouldings had either black, green, or gold center colors on them sandwiched between two white strips, they are all a one piece moulding though.
You need to get a 1970-1971 parts book Tom!!

Dayclona, I would love to have the set of engineering diagrams you have I only ran across one diagram over the years and its for a road runner.

So the diagram shows that it's adhesive backed? I would have thought it was attached like the side molding on a challenger?

Does anybody know if the 1970 and 1971 V5X had the same profile? Does anybody repop this side molding or manufacture something close in appearance?

Not the same '70 VS. '71. None are manufactured & marketed as reproductions, there are some generic side mouldings available that are close to the '70 Barracuda version.

I should've cleaned it up for the photo-op, unfortunately it's only 18" long.
