Any suggestions for a '68-'72 muscle car that someone in the neighborhood of 500 lbs would fit comfortably in? Height I would guess at 5'10". Brand is less important. I'm thinking a column automatic would be good, but leg room seems to be the main problem.

Doesn't get much bigger than a C-body, a Fury or 300 from that era would fit the bill.

The '71 Satellite has very good head room.

It's fairly easy to fab up some brackets to move the seat back several inches. Here's a write up I did a few years ago over at the SlantSix forum:

A-B-C-bodys will fit very good, E-body no. Reason being steering coloum sets higher and better angle in the a b c cars. With no consouls plenty of leg room. I'm a tall,big guy and these cars are still light years ahead of anything new for ease of fitting, especially the steering wheel ( don't have to extend your arms, its close). Set in any forein car to see what i mean.

At 6-feet tall, and 330 lbs, I fit ok in a Valiant.

At 6' 2" 330lbs my '72 & '73 A Bodies are just right. At 500lbs I would look for a bench seat auto trans car.

Hmm. Well as was said the legroom is awesome in old no console cars. So it must mostly be the butt to belly button measurement that's the problem?

How about a tiny aftermarket steering wheel? Our cars have such strong power steering a tiny wheel works great. No chain links though unless you wanna look like cheech

I'm 6'6" 340lbs and my bucket seat console shifted 72 Challenger is fine for me. 500lbs I agree with a bench seat..

Good for him. I was going to suggest something like a 69-72 Buck Skylark GS. The guy I bought the one I have from was 500lbs and 5'9". He drove it without a problem and it is a bucket seat car. When you said muscle car a C body does not come to mind.

A big thing to keep in mind is reinforcing the floors with substantial plating so the seat doesn't push through. Marty was just passing 400 lbs when he broke the passenger seat and floor in a friend's fox body Mustang.

My younger brother is about 5'9" and over 500lbs and is driving around in a 1966 VW bug. I don't see how, but he does. I did add a 2" block to the clutch pedal to space it closer so he can sit sideways.

Those fox bodies have week floors. I broke the floor in mine and I was 180lbs. I wonder how much is contributed to driving hard. When you buy some frame connectors for these cars, they have reinforcements for the seats attached.
