So, I've found better pads than the Firm Feel Carbon Metallic pads....

All based on a Kelsey Hayes Single Piston Pin style caliper from a 1976 Cordoba

EBC Sells the following:

Red
Green
Yellow (their only track rated pad)
$120 ish for all.

Hawk Sells an HPS

HB643F.595 $60

Porterfield can get the following:

R4-S $89
R4 $219
R4-E Endurance Race pad $219
R41 Vintage auto-x pad $219

And they also offer Raybestos:

ST42
ST43
ST45
ST47

$229

For me, a set of pads can help me wait a little longer to convince Cas to make another LX Rotor on Viper Caliper kit...

Good news for the cheap guys out there who want to run factory style brakes really hard. I'm going to put Motul RBF600 or ATE fluid, add ducting and try to go kill the rotors at an HPDE!

I don't recommend ATE fluid. I have boiled that stuff in a 2900 lbs. S2000. I have never used Motul stuff though?

I just put Castrol SRF brake fluid in my car as the WET boiling point is over 500° deg F. I needed two bottles though. Expensive but I think its worth it.

The carbon metallic pads are about on par with the Hawk HPS.

Everything above the yellow stuff will be a step up. The Porterfield r4-s is a clubsport style pad and the rest are race pads.

I run the Hawks HPS pads on my '73 Dart but can't say I'm that impressed (anymore).

- '73 Chrysler calipers with '73 11.75" rotors,
- Alum. 15/16" MC
- Stock prop.valve
- Rear brakes are stock 2.5" wide 10" dia drums.

Along with a soft tire swap I thought it had solved the rear brake-bias my car had awhile ago.
But I've recently changed tires on my car and the rear brake-bias is back again when braking hard and suddenly, even on dry roads.
(Previous tires had a 200 threadwear rating, the current ones have 280 orso, but seem a bit older.)

I use to run the hawk's hps then i switched over to the porterfield's. it was almost night and day - you should try them - they are around the same price

I would move to an adjustable proportioning valve.

Are the rear wheel cylinders fairly new?

Yes, rear cylinders are new. Installed them when I narrowed the rear axle.
If they were old/unkwown age, I could've bought smaller ones.

I've got an adj.prop valve somewhere, but for some reason I don't like to 'tone down' the rear brakes to match the fronts, when I'm still feeling the fronts should be able to brake better.

Besides upgrading the brake pads again, I have a few other options to improve the fronts, but at all would mean ending up with smaller piston-surface which would offset the brake bias even more, so I will for sure need to go smaller on the rear cylinders aswell.
The current brake system on the front is very heavy because of the '73 fullsize Chrysler parts (caliper & rotor). I wouldn't mind shedding some weight there and go to a lightweight Wilwood system like I have on another car. Been thinking of just swapping it all over as the Wilwood system are brakes way better on the other car.
The swap would be a pretty much no-cost operation so it's very tempting.
