They make the lights for MSD, French Grimes and many other places who sell professional timing lights for racing. I know you said you don't need the best, just so you and others know. There is a difference, I have used them all. web page

Just used Dad's dial back on his truck last weekend, but I like the tach feature on the new Pro version, and they don't sell the old chrome style anymore. http://www.sears.com/craftsman-professional-digital-timing-light/p-00914066000P?adCell=REC_1_0 My light is very old. I'd rather just buy a new one, especially if I can get the tach option. I don't need the best, but don't want junk either. I'll dig around some more later, didn't see much info on that Ferret model. I had the Sears chrome one & I burned the clamp then I ran across a sears non dial back on CL for $20 with what appeared to be the same cord & used its' cord & it worked then the next time the (dialback) light was back to where it was before (flashed intermittently) with the good cord on it of course. Ain't figured that one out yet live every 24 hour block of time like it's your last day on earth

The problem I have with the flaming river is it is so weak, the light is so weak. And the cord is really flimsy along with the pickup. The MSD lights that are 12V powered are very bright and crisp and is never confused by multiple sparks. The blue one in this picture is one, it was bought from French Grimes when I ran his mags. It the same one that MSD sells and many others. Sorry but it makes the craftsman lights seem weak also. You have to hold the other lights right up close, near the fan blades. The other one is so bright and concentrated that you can stand up straight and hit the balancer with the timing light, during the day light clear of the fan and see it.

I have bought several 200+ lights in the last 5 or so years and they all appear to be OVERSEAS manufactured JUNK. Ferret, craftsman, Snap off, Actron etc. IT does seem the older ones IE: 70's - 90's work the best regardless of brand, www.tandmautomotive-omaha.com

I have one that looks like your blue one but it's black. It didn't cost much and has always worked for what I needed it for.
