I have some aluminum slots that have been painted. Is there a product that will remove the paint without harming the aluminum finish?

I've used normal paint remover. Try a small area first. I think it will work fine as long as you use nothing stronger than a plastic putty knife and rags to clean off the paint after the remover has worked.

Thanks for all the tips. I will see what the oven cleaner does as I have some left over from when I was using it to clean undercoating from under my car.

If they are just old 5 slot style ones, they will just be open pore aluminum with no coating anyways...so you can always just use what ever method you want to strip the paint (chemical,media/sand blast, etc) then just send them out for polishing and they'll come up mint

All the paint stripper I found wasn't compatable with aluminum so I used brake fluid. Suprisingly it worked well.

Over cleaner will ruin the wheels - read the label - probably says right on it not to use on aluminum.

Aircraft paint stripper - available at most auto parts stores - will do the trick (since most aircraft are aluminum !!)

I guess I won't be using the oven clean. Thanks again for all the tips.
