Is it possible to restore or street rod one of these old cars or trucks and have it virtually rattle free like a newer car?

I doubt it, but you probably can do a lot to eliminate some of them.

You're probably on the right track on welding floor and toe boards in eventually. Glueing the windshield frame in will probably help. If I was worried about it I'd probably use some anti-squeek strips between the fenders, body and running boards and same on the fenders to nose. insulated sound-deading on the floors and in doors will probably help to, along with eliminating the original window regulators like I think your planning on. Then there is the tailgate; eliminating the chains will help, and some kind of seal between the body and gate will help, but it will be hard to get rid of the rattle at the hinges when you hit a bump.

Mike, I'm going to wait on welding in everything permanent till I get the Gen 3 Hemi in it. In case I need to modify them and that will be easier if I can remove them. I do have a lot of holes I can weld up for now in the toe boards other than that they are in great shape.

I've got a three step plan for dealing with the rattles and squeaks when I get mine on the road:

1. Turn my hearing aids down.

2. Turn the stereo up.

3. If all else fails.....open the exhaust dumps.

My 39 is pretty squeaky but I'm going to do the following to help: sound deadener, seal the firewall, rubber mount everything like the seats glove box door etc. Hope it quiets it down!

And if all else fails open the dumps up!

I wouldn't say that! But there may be some truth to that statement.

When I first got my car together, it was pretty squeak and rattle free. That lasted about until the end of the 1st summer of driving it. Unless the roads in your area are perfectly smooth, or unless its a garage queen and you don't drive it, squeaks and rattles will probably increase as the miles add up. Sometimes you can reduce the noise if you really keep after them, but that does become time consuming pretty quick. I tend to keep after the obnoxious squeaks and rattles and have learned to accept the minor ones. Gene
