"Parts Washer"
Open tank or closed cabinet?
For a heated cabinet washer you want a detergent that's aluminum safe. For an open tank any traditional solvent will work...I use mineral spirits. (paint thinner)

There's only one way to clean a converter, cut it open it. So-called converter "flushing" with solvent won't get out the encrusted crud.
