ok got my 40 dodge up and running,,back on the road,,,still needs a few things,,,
read an article in street rodder, about todays gas in a classic car that doesnt get driven every day,,,and if it still has a steel gas tank,,,,man they were dead on,,they had a pic of the inside of a EDDY afb carb,,,,my carb is fairly new,,low miles,,but the gas tank is original,,has a drain plug, my guess it hasnt been out since 1940 lol
carb was full of dusty rusty junk,,, took it completely apart,,,carb cleaner, tooth brush, air compressor,,,reinstalled it fired up purred like a kittten,,,
so gas tank needs to be changed,,,any one know of a supplier of a poly tank that will fit like the original up to the side fill tube ?? I see tanks inc has a steel tank,,but im thinking with the water and ethonal in todays gas it may not tank long to rust out a new steel tank,,,

Don't know of anyone making a poly replacement tank for this era vehicle, but I would think a Stainless steel tank would do the job, and that should be an option most anyplace that makes regular steel tanks. Gene
hey gene, i found that tanks inc has a aluminum coated steel tank for 41 thru 48 mopars,,,same tank in a 40,,not sure i like there side fill deal,, they do have a poly tank for a 37 ply,,side fill,,,kinda weird its way wider then the tank for the 41 to 48 mopars,, im going to have to measure before i call them,, then ask if they have stainless,,,

Nearly all the tanks from this era were side fill tanks, the filler tube is usually outside the frame rail and enters the tank on the driver side. The 41-48 tank is not very wide because the spare tire set in a well on the passenger side of the gas tank. The 39 Business coupe I had mounted the spare tire behind the driver side seat and had a flat trunk floor, the 48 Business coupe had the spare tire mounted behind the seat also, but the spare tire well was still in the trunk floor (judging by what remained of my trunk floor). yes im hoping the poly tank they have for the 37 will fit between my leafs or tail pipes,,my spare it behind the frotn seat as well,,,,the steel tank they have has a bolt on flange for the side fill,,,and they supply a formed rubber hose,,, ide perfer a welded fill tube,,,
