I have a 70 challenger convertible. when I bought it the interior panels were spray painted black they are originally white. The paint is slightly peeling off does anyone know a good way of removing the black paint without destroying the panel. I want to restore them back to the white panels. Thanks. Mike

They are made of polyethylene, a version of the same stuff most jugs chemicals are sold in are made of, meaning that most chemicals won't affect the plastic, even the nasty stuff, which is also why paint doesn't stick to it well. So, use lacquer thinner to remove paint, use a lot of it and use a non abrasive pad or cloth to wipe it off. If that fails try harsher chemicals, Acetone, even paint stripper, just use small amounts of the harsher stuff in a test area to be sure it won't melt the plastic, it shouldn't.

I've used cheap brake fluid with great results.

I use a product called Lloyd's Fight Back. It's a graffiti remover aerosol. Has a citrus orange scent. I find it is just right- strong enough to remove the spray paint without harming anything underneath. I've used it to remove spray painted black "Chevy guy" engine bays, and lots of other overspray type areas.

If it is standard spray paint and not proper vinyl dye, you might be surprised how much will come off with a good power washer or high pressure car wash wand. If it were me I would get the bulk off with pressure washer, then use a mild chemical like the ones mentioned above to soften any remaining in the deeper parts if the texture and pressure wash it a second time.
