I have owned my 70 runner since 1980. It appears to have the original spare in it. As far as I know it's never been taken out. My question is ....the tire is a bf goodrich silver town. The date on the tire shows it was made in november of 1967. Is this really the original? I've been told that only goodyear tires were used.Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks-------tire size is e-78x14

1970 Road Runner was Goodyear ONLY - F70-14 Polyglas or F60-15 Polyglas GT (door sticker?)

Curious as to how you are dating a '60s BFG? Do tell. & I don't think an E78-14 existed in 11/67.

What's the date on the wheel, around the valve stem? SPD of car?

Thanks for responding....
Just finishing up my car and wanted that restored look....
A little more detail---Up to this point...I had thought that GoodYear was the supplier so I went to a local tire store and there , the owner ,(no idea if he knows what he's talking about)gave me my information about the tire. When I asked him why a 1967 tire would be used on a 70...he replied that Chrysler bought by the bulk and it was not unusual for them to have had tires stored for a few years. Mmmmmmmmmmm. So anyways...that's why I'm here now because if anyone knows..you guys will!;)
Here's the markings---
RIM-on the left side of the valve stem...k-1-9 5 and on the right side...27 5
TIRE- DOT BEL 5 DD1167
Thanks again!

Here is the correct spare with correct jack and incorrect hook. Since this pic was taken I finally found the correct grey 70 plymouth jack hook. Man did it hurt to pay the price for that hook!

Sounds like you could have part of your original spare set-up in the rim.
K-1-9 would be a 69 Kelsey rim, 5th month 27th day, and the last 5 the size 5 inch rim.
A lot of times back in the day, owners would just grab the spare tire/rim out of the trunk and put it on when there was a blow-out, a tire was balding either from alignment problems or because it was a one wheeler, non suregrip.
In either of these scenarios, the owner likely replaced with the spare tire/rim , removed the bald original tire, threw an older ( B.F. Goodrich in this case ) tire on the rim and put back in trunk for a spare.

RIM- K-1-9 5 -o- 27 5
K = Kelsey Hayes
1 = plant #1
9 = 1969
5 = May
27 = 27th day (Tuesday 5/27/69)
5 = 14x5.0" wheel

TIRE- DOT BEL 5 DD1167
BE = (plant) Uniroyal/Goodrich Tire Tuscaloosa, AL
L 5 = (size) E78-14 is there a 3rd digit in there?
DD1 = (type)
167 = (date) 16th week 1977 (if the tire existed before 1980)

NONE of it belongs in your trunk. Do you have a b'cast sheet? What plant & SPD is the Road Runner?

Depending on tire/wheel combo your spare wheel could be 14x5.5" or 14x6.0" or 15x7.0".

Awesome....Now I have a starting point. I have to agree....the tire and rim must have been swapped out in the 70's. After looking at the broadcast sheet it shows "T87" on the second line. This designates a 14x6 rwl tire and on the 4th line..."17" on road and spare.---What size does the "17" designate...a 14x6 steel wheel?---- the wheel cover is a "(88) small dog dish"
For what it's worth...It's an L.A. car.
Thanks
What's SPD stand for?-----yeah...I feel stupid!

SPD = Scheduled Production Date it will be on the top line of the b'cast sheet to the left of the VIN ..... SPD 123456 RM23 V0E 123456 (I used to own RS23V0E131247, I purchased it in Denver '05)

LA b'cast sheets are pretty rare, can you post a pic?

If the car was a pre-December '69 build (LA may have varied on this date??), the tires would be as pictured above, later cars had the "GOODYEAR" & "POLYGLAS F70-14" in RWL.

T87 = Goodyear Polyglas F70-14 w/Raised White Letters
17 = 14x6.0" painted steel wheel (what color was the car originally?)
88 = part #2944088 - stainless steel "PLYMOUTH DIVISION" dog dish hub caps

Here's a prior thread about the same subject & the unique to LA plant 14x6.0" wheel is discussed. Moparts wheel thread with the "usual suspects"!
